My solo motorcycle off-road adventure across the Balkans continued from the city of Shkoder, Albania. Today was forecasted to be hot again. But I got a tip from some Hungarian couple earlier in Croatia about the trail to Theth. I had already decided to go for it, as it sounded awesome. So hopped on the Trans Euro Trail and started heading there! The trail made kind of a loop to Theth. I knew the other way was tarmac, so I chose to start with the gravel part first to catch at least some of the cooler morning temps.
The mountains started almost immediately after leaving Shkoder. Just stunning landscapes all the time! Got stuck in some wedding convoy. I wasn’t sure if it was appropriate to pass them, so I didn’t. Anyhow they were driving on the middle of a narrow road, so would have been a struggle to pass them anyhow. So it was time for the first overheating for my KTM 790 Adventure R “Keijo”. I was already used to it. Had to cool down second time, as the convoy was driving so slowly.
After they turned around, it wasn’t long before the gravel started! The climb up to the mountain started at the same time. Sceneries got even better kilometre after kilometre! And the trail was pure excellence, rocky and loose surface, but very enjoyable! Had to cool the engine 2 times on the way up, as didn’t have enough speed, and temps had already gone way over +30 C. Had some drinks on the top before starting the descent to Theth. The trail down was in really good condition. There was lot of renovation ongoing. I think the road might be paved at some point. Finally reached Theth and enjoyed some pizza!
Then it was time to start heading to Shengjin at the coast, where I had already booked a hotel. The trail was all paved after Theth. But it was one of the best mountain passes I had ever ridden! Very steep incline to more than 1700 meters! Once I reached the hotel, it was time for an ice cold beer and fresh dip to the ocean.
Despite the engine heating issues, this was definitely one of the best days with motorcycle!
Stay tuned to see how the adventure continues!

Poor Keijo… he needs constant icecream input to stay cool 😊
