My son started getting punctures now that it is wet. First once, then new tube. Then once more. We replaced tires to 4season with better protection.

New puncture after 10km. Picked him and bike up. New was 1 inch from old. Could not see/feel any cause. Suspected bad tube.

So we replaced the tube. 11km next time out and he was flat. Same place on tube. This was a TPU tube – so he blamed the cheap China tubes.

This time I was very thorough in my search.

Nothing to see, but a slightly uneven feel inside tyre. So I started massaging it, putting pressure on, and then the head of an embedded piece of flint popped out – I had found the cause. A 3mm long piece of flint. Was at an angle to the tire.

So just a tip, the cause for flats might be almost 100% embedded in the tyre. So always search for the reason.

Not many anti-puncture shields can prevent this. It is almost like needles – but harder.
