I’m new to cycling, and I’ve never purchased a bike before, but there is a [local flea market specifically for bikes](http://www.nybikejumble.com) that happens once a year and I want to look into it.
I went to a local bike shop a while back, and their inventory was not good. They had two used bikes that were too small (I’m 5’10”), and only one steel frame that was new, expensive, and also too small. The one aluminum frame hybrid that I tried there just didn’t feel right. I don’t know enough about cycling to explain it — I just felt cramped I guess
I’m really just looking for a low-maintenance urban commuter for small distances, so I was considering a used steel frame road bike or hybrid. Apparently, there will be many used/vintage bikes at this flea market, so it seems like a budget-friendly option that will have what I’m looking for. But I’m worried that I might get ripped off, or just buy the wrong thing outright because they probably won’t be able to give me a whole lot of attention at a flea market.
What do you think? Any advice?
