Hi Friends,

This week I wanted to share my thoughts on everything that is going on with Luigi Mangione and UnitedHealthcare. Most people already know the story but what I think few understand is the wider context of people’s anger at health insurance companies and they’re lifting up of someone they see as a vigilante.

Under Obamacare more people are insured than ever before. It getting passed meant companies could not deny you based on preexisting conditions or family history. Even with the coverage the actual likelihood of you paying into your health insurance and actually being insured when you need it is unreasonably low.

Doctors, labs, and hospitals are out of network depending on who you have and whether you have Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Elevance, CVS Health, Kaiser Foundation, Humana, Centene Group, Cigna, or health care services corporation you are not immune to the possibility of having to pay more out of pocket than you can afford and being saddled with bills you have to fight with your insurance provider over.

All of us have to figure out a way forward. Some believe that it will be through legislation that curbed insurance companies ability to deny and delay claims until the problem, or the person, goes away.

Luigi has been hailed or condemned on Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook by what feels like everyone in the United States.

If you love my stories I have a podcast that comes out every week: https://bit.ly/3NQmpio

  1. we should record when people get left behind and lose their lives and health and put it on blast just like the did the CEO. We should make a channel that exposes insurance companies case by case and then a data scientist could gather the information and prove how damaging the companies can be to people's health.
imma make -so was marty tshirts….Mr. Johnson, is it appropriate to ask you what percentage of the funds from the tshirts ? Am I plagersmizing?

  2. Josh mentioned history repeating and the French Revolution and it reminded me of the many depictions of revolutions in Eastern Europe. Soldiers in uniforms that were barely more than rags, emaciated from hunger standing in palace hallways filled with golden columns and paintings and furniture, staring wide-eyed at the wealth that had been hoarded…

  3. Sorry I don't have sympathy for any greedy oligarchs. How many people die every year in the hospital because they have been refused treatment due to their greed.

  4. Dude, I'm white and I am always relieved when the criminal is white because, unless the perp does the crime on camera, turns around and announces their name and address, the general public (whites) assumes that the perp is black. CBS employs a 'few' racist idiots. And when have white people struck you as sane, intelligent human beings? Sorry, I'm in a mood.

  5. The thing about your comedy is that you make your audience Think! Can't just be sat there laughing, you draw us into the story, you show us what's involved, who's involved, why we are where we are and you Make Us Think!

I can't be sitting around, twiddling my thumbs while I laugh. I have to Listen to you, Hear what you're saying, Consider each point of view you offer. Your humor reaches far beyond simple laughter. People are laughing like hyenas and then: WHAM! Oh! I hadn't looked at it like that! And suddenly they are ruminating over what you've said. You aren't a 'safe' comedian, but you are funny, thoughtful, observant and willing to check people on their biases. More than once you've caught me and hit close to home. Keep it up. Keep making us laugh. Keep making us think. Every time you cause someone to say, "Hold up! That's me!" You make our world better.

  6. I am not kidding I was thinking about this one boss as you were talking about it and then you said "if you have time to lean you have time to clean" and this crazy lady said that to me once. Worst part is she was a manager who came in after I started the job so I knew it was a good job if you had a calm manager which we did before.

  7. Too young to be this inciteful! He's got the storytelling of Pryor and Chappelle, the commentary of Rock and Lewis Black, and the disarming innocence of Louie CK and Carlin. And I'm just saying this about style only, so don't bite my head off! Time will tell the rest. And props to YouTube for having a platform for this dude to promote his career, where he could have been easily overlooked in more traditional routes.

  8. I’ve witnessed in my own personal life watch Pharmaceutical Reps bargain with doctors over what meds to push and for a profit. For two years my doctors bounced me around and referring me to several other “ specialists” while they all were raking in from my insurance. In the meantime the insurance didn’t do their due diligence to make sure I had the correct tests made. The medical industry is just as corrupt and mechanics and gvt

  9. As long as the majority of the american electorate is as dumb as the current one and believes everything when they are promised wealth for all and sunshine every day, nothing will ever change.

  10. Over here in Germany, health insurance organisations are not allowed to make a profit. And as long as this only leads to them getting a more posh office and maybe a new office building every once in a while, thats fine with me.

  11. Luigi is a hero and a Martyr, because he IS all of us.. hell he is the Best of us. He has a Master's degree in engineering, and has debilitating pain. And is from an affluent family, and both he and his mother were in ridiculous medical debt. So we don't feel sorry that he decided to do something about it, when no one else would. 🤷🏽‍♀️

  12. I'm a white European atheist and I still thought "Thank God the shooter wasn't black." Y'all got enough problems without the whites blaming skin colour for that.

  13. At first i thought Josh was being too optimistic, but I realize we're on the same page about the inevitability this country is headed towards…

    Versailles…

That said, I wonder if he understands the arc of history? That these cycles are not incidental but intentional and they are the result of the short sighted hamstrings of individuals over all of us.

Josh touched on it briefly when talking about muskets… the next Versailles won't be nearly as easy with the weapons made available in today's day and age. Worse yet, we still don't know the full scope of our own technology that would be deployed against us and this is what I wonder if Josh has seen for enough to understand.

That this is what the families ruling the world have been waiting for; the time where they will accumulate enough from the world that they are unreachable. That no amount of protest, resistance or even guerrilla fighting will be enough to stop the enforcement of their will and our complete and total subjugation…

    The powerful will not willingly give up their power and our passivity and unwillingness to fight back is what will ensure our destruction as a species. -_-;

Especially if we continue ignoring the changes in our world and universe as a whole.

  14. The reason why the McDonald's employee didn't get the money is that there was no McDonald's employee, they tracked him through some illegal surveilance bs and came up with a lousy cover story. There is no way cops are showing up before he finishes his food on a random call during a nation wide manhunt
