  1. Great video as always. There is something very special when travelling by train and you capture this in such a lovely way. I once had a family holiday at a campsite in Dawlish Warren and it was next to the Railway Line. I became a train spotter for a week! You have inspired me to take this line sometime soon as it must be a very similar experience to the East Coast mainline through Northumberland but with an even better sea view. I am intrigued by the whole 'knickers on your head' thing. What is the story of this !!????

  2. I remember "I were a lad"
there was a once a day service from Newcastle to Poole
which was great for me as I was in Yorkshire and needed to go to college
So it was a Pacer to Wakefield Westgate then a through service to Oxford
I don't think it runs anymore.

These long distance once a day or twice a day services are / were great
also some of the weekend services to seaside stations.

  3. A bit of Geology for you. The beaches are red because most of the rocks in the area are made of red sandstone. Dawlish is one of the best places to see these rocks and you should get to meet the black swans.

  4. Paignton beach made from Devon red sandstone, perhaps laid down in the Devonian geological era. Our soils are red too. Hope you return to Devon. The Tarka and Avocet branch lines from Exeter are well worth a visit.

  5. Aw whow just love watching your vlogs. I love a train journey, or two, too, especially when they are not overcrowded! Had a few journeys having to stand quite away.
Dawlish and surrounding area is a great place to visit. The sand and also the cliffs in that area are red due to the presence of iron minerals. Have a great day 😊🤙

  6. I've been to Dawlish before and it's a nice place to visit. The views are good when you walk along side the Railway and the sea wall. Thank you for sharing G.

  7. Such a beautiful journey – even in the mist and rain! I lived in Dartmouth in South Devon in the 90s. You really should go back and travel that heritage line to Kingswear when the weather is better. Its wonderful -although – peak summer time is proper hellishly busy!! Dartmouth has a station that trains never arrived at (called The Station Cafe). Loving your videos – you're a natural

  8. Another amazing video @GLovesTrains, great to see you visiting down south again!
I too at some point want to travel the trip from Penzance to Edinburgh, but maybe over a day or two of travel!
The sea wall walk at Teignmouth to Dawlish is recommended but only on a sunny calm day.
Hope to see more videos soon of your adventures down south

  9. Another great vlog thanks G! I love that part of the line that goes by Dawlish. I also have those nights where you don’t feel like you slept. OMG that train needs a bath! Iron oxide content makes the sand and soil red in Devon😊😊😊😊

  10. great video, been to Paignton recently with class 37's up front, can recommend the pastie shop just across the level crossing, plus point today, was the 1K like ! now that just tops the day for me as it rolled over from 999 to the thousand !!!

  11. Is that the 8am service from Manchester that gets to Birmingham new street for 9.42am i neen on that when i got off at newton abbot then caught the train to Redruth ❤

  12. If you’re gonna do Aberdeen to Penzance, do it before timetable change in May, as the rumour is that it will then terminate at Plymouth. Pls give me a wave as you pass Totnes!

  13. I Stayed For My Holiday's Over There At Welcome Family Holiday Park in Dawlish Warren South Devon Back in 2017 And 2018 And For My Holiday's At Lady's Mile Holiday Park On Exeter Road in Dawlish South Devon Back in 2022 And 2023 An I Stayed For My Holiday's At Hobourne Devon Bay Holiday Park On Grange Road in Paignton South Devon Back in 2022 And 2023

  14. This brought back memories for me G, it's been quite a while since I was last in Paignton, but it's one of those places you will always be happy to go back to! 👍

  15. Another great vlog I've not been to paington for many years the steam railway is well worth a visit it does pass the water park slide and goodrington beach when I was down there the beach was a topless beach lol keep up the great work

  16. My wife and I walked the ENTIRE LENGTH of Whip-Ma-Whap-Ma Gate the other week. We were so exhausted we had to collapse into a bar just a bit further on for some much-needed rest and refreshment.

Seriously, another great video – thanks. I’m quite happy with the Class(es) 220, 221 & 222 – it’s just that as used by Cross Country the Voyagers can get very, very busy. East Midlands’ Meridians (222s) generally aren’t as busy. As for the seat reservations, they often fail completely on the 222s.

  17. That was a long journey on a Voyager, I have the number of a therapist if you've been affected by that experience. 😂 I'm currently on a 60 day streak of no Voyagers.

Paignton is very nice, I went during the summer and had scampi and chips by the beach. Great day out.

  18. Hoi, G, pretty interesting and well done. Like it. Need to go there without rain and in spring maybe. Plymouth, Dartmoor, Bodmin are done here, not Paignton till now. Greetings, Markus
