Well done and all the best with the long ride Dan! It seems only fair that Si comes along for the ride. It is much more fun to handle a challenge like this with a mate!! Enjoyπ
Dan! You've got this. You have PLENTY of prep time. You're already one step ahead by focusing on the TIME. Ignore the kms. Break the ride into duration. Groups of us have done 300km rides down here (South Africa), with a fairly flat route and pros on the front, some years we got close to 8.5hrs ride time. Added to that a few Everestings (25hrs, 31hrs, 15hrs) If you keep stopping and eating, you'll bite away at tye distance with ease. Well, it won't be easy but it is totally possible. I bet you'll surprise yourself. And think about all the training and nutrition knowledge you've learnt after you were a pro. Go Dan!

Accident rates per km for the total pool of cars vs cyclist fail to correct for that the ones riding a bike are not the ones driving more than 100km per day. Short driving cars are replaced with cyclists.
Disgusting what Discovery are doing. Expecting people to pay Β£30.99 a month. Itβs just Greed, and a complete ripoff. The majority of people can not afford to pay that to watch they sport the love. Unfortunately itβll price out people and stop younger people getting in to the sport. My 6 year old loves to watch the bikes racing but I cannot justify the cost.
How are younger people supposed to be inspired to get in to sport if the powers that be keeping hiking the price up more and more.

Had a decent career, sure, but played 6 times for Southampton when young before returning to Belgium for most of his career, then 6 games for Wolves before leaving for Belgium again. 12 games total in the Prem League.

It's not like 350 km is that muchπ je can do that easily. Doing it fast on the othe hand, that's tough. But come on even at 20kph average 350 is barely 18 hours

To reduce risk UCI rules reduce the presence of team support cars with spare bikes. Cyclists to carry spares with them.
I'm an ex first cat in the late 80s that has come back due to my son getting me into cycling again. last year i grovelled around l'etape de Tour in 9hours, my son said it was 'too easy' as he did it in 6hrs, so he entered us both for le tour de stations Everest edition this year which is 240km and 9000meters of climbing in one day. As an aging fully fledged 'old git, i'll be 60 for both events in 2025, I'll be keeping an eye on Dans preparation as any help/tips might be useful. i guess Dan will need a rear view mirror to see the competition disappearing behind him…. maybe
using a mobile phone while your stationary might be illegal but its hard to see how its dangerous…

Here's some news and it's not good – Warner Bros. Discovery has announced that Eurosport will be integrated into its TNT Sports network in the UK and Ireland from February 28, 2025, meaning that monthly subscription prices to watch WorldTour cycling will shoot up from Β£6.99 to Β£30.99. TNT taking the piss but not my money Thanks
πΈ Looks like Rouvy submitted a Hack/Bodge: It was less effort to put the ghost riders on the course, than putting the course on Rouvy.
Light turned green for and I entered an intersection on my ebike and collided with an SUV that ran their red light. Ended up going to the hospital in an ambulance, but luckily got away with just a broken pinky and shoulder injury considering the circumstances. I still ride to work, but only on an analog bike now. The accident wasn't my fault (as the police and insurance concluded), but I think riding an ebike did make it more dangerous because of the acceleration. I would just hit the throttle from a stop and get up to 15-20 mph in seconds and because I was going so fast and the weight of the bike, I couldn't react or stop in time to avoid the collision. It was a wakeup call for me. Be careful out there!

HOPE OVER EXPERIENCE This is an excellent time for Dan to settle comfortably into the world of recumbent cycling. If you are going to be tired you might as well have pain free anatomy. Mid-life, long ride tics all the 'bent boxes.
