This episode sees us continue along the “Lovely Taubertal Radweg” in very hot weather. A visit to the hilltop city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber was a highlight. Soon we would leave the Tauber and meet the Wornitz River before eventually making it to the River Danube and the city of Donauworth. All of this is still on the popular “Romantische Strasse” route with several historic walled towns and beautiful scenery. The episode ends just south of Donauworth at a campground which is a little off the cycle route, so although the Via Claudia Augusta route starts in Donauworth, we have to wait one more day to connect up with it!

Some useful resources:
Bikeline’s “Via Claudia Augusta” guidebook. Still only available in German, but the maps are great

Great info here although a bit clumsy to navigate

Cycling Guide for Bavaria: below is an official Bavarian Government website from which you can download an excellent map in pdf format of all cycling routes in Bavaria. Look for “Cycling Guide for Bavaria” to open the link to the map. (Google will translate from german)

  1. Yes. Truly enjoyable. And you were so lucky having warm and sunny weather. Ok, maybe even a bit too hot … but better than rain.
Lovely towns, too. Maybe some day I’ll that route, too.
    Thanks for sharing again 😊
