Cyclists often get the blame for chaos on busy city streets, but the data tells a different story—especially when it comes to distracted drivers using mobile phones behind the wheel. 📱🚗

Conor heads to London to meet the well-known cyclist, @CyclingMikey, who’s made it a mission to hold law-breaking motorists accountable. From catching drivers in the act to reporting incidents, Conor dives into Mikey’s unique world and even tries stepping into his shoes for a few kilometres.

Conor also reflects on the bigger picture and what this means for the future of road safety. 🚴‍♂️👮‍♂️

  1. I can’t abide this bloke, I hate everything about him and think he ruins the cycling community , sorry if this is an unpopular opinion, but he is a despicable human

  2. The hypocrite ignores a lot of illegal behavior because of his bias. He rides dangerously most of the time because of his personal vendetta, always distracted by what others are doing in vehicles instead of concentrating on what's around him. He then posts it on social media to make a profit under the guise of making a point.

  3. The huge problem with reporting (which I agree with) in London at least is that with police budgets so tight they’ve effectively outsourced road policing to the public. I literally can’t remember seeing any kind of active traffic policing in London for years – it’s all sit back and wait for it to come in. And worse, they’re not set up to deal with the volume of reports and regularly can’t consider cases sent in

  4. I am perplexed that he doesn't wear a helmet. He, of all people, should know how bad other road users are and should protect himself accordingly.

  5. Is staring into every person's car you drive past distracted cycling? Its not as bad as distracted driving, but it feels a little hypocritical.
Great video that discusses both sides! I don't think there's a clear answer of this being right or wrong.

  6. His channel has some really nasty confrontations where he shows no empathy. eg. In one of his videos there's a woman sat in stationary traffic, quickly checking her phone because she's waiting to hear news about her operation from the hospital. He tells her she's going to court and could lose her license. She is obviously distraught and begging with him. He responds that it's out of his hands. …But it's not.

There's a massive disconnect between what he says and what he does. He says that he doesn't know why people like watching confrontations, yet uploads to his channel. He talked to that woman in the van like he had no choice, but he set out to film things like this and is choosing to report it. You never know what someone's situation is.

I'm a cyclist, but I think this guy does what he does because he enjoys the power and subjecting others to pain.

  7. Usually, the ones that don't like what Mike is doing are the ones breaking the law. Call it what you want. He's showing people breaking the law, and he's more proactive than the police in some aspects.

  8. Brave guy in this day and age. Totally applaud what he’s doing (and indeed what all the other dashcammers do). Wonder whether it’s being on a bicycle that gets people riled up for the most part ….? Shame there aren’t more coppers on bikes doing his job

  9. I have no issue with travel cams for liability and evidence etc, but I have a deep discomfort around citizens reporting on fellow citizens. It feels very “Soviet era denunciation” to me and an unproductive anti-social act. Just communicate with one another.

  10. Pretty regularly on my commute I see cars and trucks double-parked in the bike lane, forcing cyclists into heavy traffic along a major artery, Fairmount Ave. The police say they have a new squad to give tickets to these sorts of drivers, but they created a tiny number of squads to handle a city of 1.4 million people! So far, the police have had zero impact, as far as I can see.

  11. I can't dislike his work, but I notice online that he's very selective in what he comments on when it comes to cycling in London. It can be frustrating to see.

  12. Imagine drivers being caught for driving dangerous and illegally whle using their phone and somehow that makes people angry about cyclists

  13. It's so great that Mikey is putting the effort into publicising motorists using their phones whilst driving. It's so dangerous for everyone on the road, including the driver themselves. Motorists use dashcams all the time so why shouldn't cyclists? Keep up the good work.

  14. from someone who almost had their right leg severed from just above the calve due to a driver using a phone I would suggest that penalties are too lenient right now (car went in to the back of me. headlight shattered on my bike and the momentum carried the glass / polycarb.. forward slicing through muscle and embedding part way in to bone). Still remember waking up wit ha crowd around me and all i wanted to do was stop my Garmin and check my bike.

  15. Even before watching I had an impression of a cyclist just making motorist more angry towards us "like ohhh great". But after watching the whole video, you really see he started doing that to protect us cyclist and other road users, he's a hero in disguise, a car not paying attention can destroy someone life or cause death, grateful to have someone in the world reminding people to be careful on the road, thank you GCN & Mickey !!

  16. Curious – he's apparently obsessed with road safety and does not wear a helmet??? Or indeed clothing that is at least visible in winter against grey skies and black roads. I'm not arguing with the need to crack down on stupid driving habits but cyclists are equally responsible for their safety in busy traffic.
