We support organisations like Bikeworks through our Community and Environment Fund, which is available to communities that live along the route of the new railway to help with the disruption caused by the construction of HS2.

The Ride-Side-by-Side project by Bikeworks offers older or less mobile people who may not be able to access cycling using a standard bicycle the opportunity to make utility and leisure trips on a four-seater cycle. These side-by-side cycles are controlled by trained ‘pilots’ and people have the option to pedal or not.

  1. This is not HS2 money. It's taxpayers, the peoples, money. And while you are splurging on these pork belly projects, the old and disabled are freezing to death in their homes, because you took their winter heating allowance away.

  2. As part of a planning proposal there will usually be conditions attached to provide things for the local areas affected. If you go anywhere near the Old Oak station build you'll see that the construction has a big negative impact on the area – noise, goods traffic, temporary traffic lights everywhere etc. That's why things like this are done, even though they seem a bit odd on the surface. This probably cost a few grand out of a 100 odd billion!

  3. This is all very lovely, but if HS2 ditched all these extraneous projects might they save enough to actually build the railway beyond Birmingham where it needs to be to make the whole line worthwhile.
The Tories designed the HS2 scheme to be overpriced and therefore unpopular to discourage people from wanting any more HS rail in future.

  4. I'm struggling to see how people would have a problem with this, it's nothing cost wise and does some good in the local community. People really need to see things in some context.

  5. Just like they claim to funding "environmental issues" but it's all propaganda. HS2 Ltd have already incurred numerous fines for multiple breaches of environmental issues. Thousands of trees planted along the route in Warwickshire where the vast majority perished due to lack of aftercare.
The pollution of streams, rivers & other waterways with toxic chemicals.
The bulldozing of mile upon mile of hedgerows containing nesting birds when they specifically promised to wait until the nesting season was over .. the list goes on.
HS2 is an environmental disaster of epic proportions & Britain's biggest infrastructure mistake in half a century.

  6. What has a relic that wobbles along the side of the road got to do with building a high speed railway?
End all woke ideology – DEI, CRT and ESG! The woke era is over! Get on with building the railway!!!

  7. Why is HS2 responsible for this? UK projects lack focus, cost control and vision – without planning reform, this will continue to suffocate the UK
