  1. I don't understand why Alex doesn't use tubeless in winter. Wet conditions increase the likelihood of getting a puncture, and increase the misery of dealing with a roadside puncture, particularly then your hands are numb from the cold! If you are not using hookless rims, you can always bring a tube with you if all else fails. There's got to be some other reason why Alex is so resistant to this. Perhaps he has an older rain bike with clincher wheels he feels compelled to use still. By the way, I am still upset you don't know the significance of Blue Colored Gios Bikes!

  2. You absolutely forgot the easiest thing you can do for winter cycling without changing a thing on your bike, gear or kit. Buy a plane ticket to someplace warm! I've been wintering on the Big Island of Hawaii for 25 years.

  3. The best and cheapest winter kit is a buff coupled with a casquette. Keeps the ears, nose and throat warm to avoid the winter sniffles, with the peak keeping the rain out the eyes. Also, ski gloves when it goes sub zero, saves having to splurge on expensive winter cycle gloves.

  4. Sorry for the harsh comment, but this integrated handlebar is useless, it is expensive, easily damaged, not interchangeable with other bikes, the hardware is outdated within 2 years, you are dependent on a small, new company for software upgrades – no, it makes no sense whatsoever.

  5. Another great show boys, keep up the good work!
Glad to hear common sense has prevailed on wet lube over wax in winter. I don't race so I don't use wax, that's it for me, simples…

  6. The mesh 'string vest' base layers are by far the best. I use one that I originally bought for running (Brynje) and it's genuinely the best item of clothing I've ever bought. Keeps you warm yet stops you getting sweaty on the climbs. People always take the p*ss as it looks like I'm off to some bondage party ๐Ÿคฃ – but it works great.

  7. I NEVER ride with anyone else. I ride outdoors on my own and I ride on Zwift alone. I have no problem getting through winter without friends to ride with.

  8. The winter gear you need for REAL winter, like the one we have here in Canada, are winter cycling shoes and merino socks. They are a game changer. You donโ€™t ruin your regular pair of shoes and you stay warm for longer. Plus you donโ€™tโ€™ need football sock length overshoes. Itโ€™s a already long getting dressed for rinding in the winter. I like that just have to put my winter does on and donโ€™t overheat whilst Iโ€™m putting overshoes. Finally, barmitts are awesome in REAL winter conditions.

  9. Totally disagree with using a wash mitt the wash method shown will introduce grit and dirt to the wash bucket thus when you dip your mitt you could pickup the grit and dirt you've just washed off your bike. Better to use 4-5 microfiber clothes in your wash bucket and when a section of your bike is cleaned put the cloth to one side and use a fresh clean one thus never putting a dirty grit filled cloth in your cleaning water

  10. What is Alan taking about! "I just sometimes want the easier option of having an inner tube." In what cockamamie alternative reality is standing by the side of a wet road with your bike stood on its handlebars and saddle(!!!) while you disassemble the back wheel an easier option than putting a plug into a tubeless tyre? And btw, yes, I did have to look up the spelling of 'cockamamie'.

  11. I have that Pearl Izuni base layer, bith the long sleeve snd short sleeve. i do love the loops to help get jt on so the base stays in olace, SO SMART!

  12. Hello GCN friends. Since weโ€™re actively involved in improving the Bike Vault segment for the viewers, hereโ€™s my submission to the Suggestion Box: when we lean our precious bikes against something while out on a ride during a cafe stop or to take a photo; no reasonable person does damage to their brake lever, saddle or paint job when doing so. Weโ€™re not rubbing it back and forth to get it to stick! Please stop penalizing folks for not carrying a shadow stand with them on a ride. A small point, yes, but it gets mentioned a lot. Thanks and peace yโ€™all

  13. Ollie, Mudlarking is hunting on tidal shores for archaeological artifacts and such. Kinda like metal detecting. It's very much an English thing, with the Thames being a popular spot. You should know this.

  14. Regarding the Flitedeck handlebar: it has just been covered in German-based Roadbike magazine and its online outlet BikeX:
According to their article, it weighs starting from 800 g and will cost in the pre-order phase under 2000 EUR.
    ===
I wonder – no, I doubt whether there is a market for this.

  15. 'Come on' , Mick Jaggers bike, I know some people will have 'mixed emotions' or could 'take it or leave it' though 'I don't know why' as 'wild horses' can't stop me wanting it.
I just 'think' that it's a 'road runner', 'hot stuff', I just want to 'let it loose', for it to 'start me up' and to get my 'rocks off' and have 'good times'.

Though 'tell me' does it have 'no spare parts'?
Hmmm has it already sold? I'm I 'out of time'? Oh well 'time waits for noone', I suppose 'you gotta move' fast on these items.

  16. I love commuting by bike in winter, you get some amazing days and there's something so satisfying zipping home while everyone else is stuck in traffic or crammed on the bus.

  17. You guys are really selling living in the UK with this one.๐Ÿคฃ Living in Oklahoma, USA I have never owned a base layer, I only use an asssaver style mud guard when it either has rained for a few days or is actively raining otherwise I just adjust my route to avoid the messer areas, and I run a waxed chain all year around without any issues, including for cyclocross.
