I have an old carbon mountain bike that doesn’t have eyelets for accepting traditional rack mounts. I really liked the Tailfin system, but it’s just so expensive. So, I set out to figure out a way to get a cheaper rack (in this case the Orltlieb Quick Rack) onto my 2007 Ibis Mojo.
What’s great is that Tailfin has axles for many different axle options, including a Quick Release axle, which is what is on my older bike!

I’ve had both designs (one on each side) on my bike for a couple weeks now. So far everything is working great!
One caveat to be aware of: This moves the mounting position of the Quick rack down to the axle, which effectively reduces the tire clearance to the rack. My bike only has 26″ wheels, with \~2.35″ tires on it and there is plenty of clearance. This may not work well on larger wheels and tires.
