Hello! I found out my store is closing this Saturday, so I'm in the market for a bike in order to take up a job I was offered; The absolute top of my budget is $500, but of course given the situation I'd rather not go that far if it can be helped.
So I'm looking for something daily-use, ideally that can handle a bit of snow but I'm ok with cutting my losses and walking the hour if it's bad-bad out.
I'm 5'10-5'11 and haven't ridden a bike since I was a kid. I already bought a helmet and lock.
To that end, I have a few bikes I'm looking at.
- Walmart bikes
- As far as I can gather they're hit-or-miss. Is there any brand that's relatively alright or that I should avoid? Are any of these used bikes better deals?
- Marketplace listings (Reposting the images instead of sharing my location lol)
- Bike 1: 26" Shimano, visible wear and tear and some already replaced parts. "One tire has a new back tube and it has new front brakes." $120. https://imgur.com/a/oePjPYi
- Bike 2: Huffy Granite, 18 speed, 26", claims like new. $125 https://imgur.com/a/hbS7XiG
- Bike 3: Magna Great Divide, 18 speed, 26", claims like new. $100 https://imgur.com/a/dG13Kpc
- Bike 4: Trek Navigator 2.0. Says it's in good condition, $125 https://imgur.com/a/fIzVZZQ
- Whatever the bike shop guy tells me
- As I mentioned, I'd rather not drop everything I have on a bike, but the local bike shop has "a couple of used bikes" under my $500 range. I'm trusting that he knows what he's talking about, but don't really have any information past what I've said. It's a long walk over, so if I don't have anything lined up by the weekend I'll probably head over and just get something there.
This is all rather time-sensitive, so any help is appreciated! Thank you and have a nice day!
