Finally I get out on my new Bikepacking bike, after making a few alterations to set it up to my liking. Not really the best conditions with black ice about , I head out on my first ride of 2025 to a local spot to have a little chat about the new bike.

  1. 1 will you be painting it in the future that last paint job was perfect for the wild camps
2 love the handle bar and bar setup looks good with the camera on
3 oil or wax on the chain or dont you think it matters
4 i have the giant XTC 840 cross country its an older bike but rides like a dream "many mods too" perfect for the canal
5 PLEASE BE CAREFULL ON THAT BLACK ICE
    peace pall

  2. nice addition to the stable 🚴 nice 1x set up no front mech & left shifter to worry about.apparantly the shim in the seat tube wasn't long enough on some of the giants dave & a crack appeared according to one of my mates in the bike shop.some dodgy black ice there 🥶😲 you should be ok as i think it was the carbon tcr's

  3. No cycling for me at the moment, we had five inches of snow. The main roads are clear but back roads are covered in snow and ice, trails are not rideable also.

  4. Good new set-up Dave. You could consider swopping out the 40t to a 36t chain ring for when the bike is loaded up and thus tackling any particular inclines. Was meant to out on a trip this weekend but for a back injury, however the backroads from Haltwhistle and up towards the forestry would had been concerning in places, perhaps too dicey with all the black ice around.

  5. Looks like a cracking bike Dave I am sure you will get it as you want it before too long. Looking forward to the next video putting the new bike through its paces when the ice has gone. Take Care. B. K.

  6. Always nice to have a new steed ! I have a gaint with a "D" Fuse post on my FastRoad E+ EX Pro. Which i used for my 21 mile round commute. (To take the sting out the hills). I'm taller and heavier than you, it did squeak. I thought it was the bottom bracket. But the shop popped some greace on the post and its been fine. 3000 plis miles. Its been absolutely fine. Enjoy your new bike. Atb Grant 👍.

  7. Cracking stuff Dave. Lovely bike. I think you'll be fine with a single chain ring and those low gears at the rear. I've got a Giant gravel bike and it has been excellent. Really comfy and reliable. Enjoy matey. Cheers. Paul 👍

  8. What a great set up, Dave on the new bike, but with the ice being so bad I would think twice before going out on my bike. I managed to slip and fall on my arse on the steps outside by kitchen door today. Spent the rest of the morning gritting the paths and my carpark. With your collection of bikes, I expect a video titled 'my new shed or my new workshop' to be coming from you soon, just to house them. Thanks for the update. ATB Big Dave Scotland

  9. I’m thinking about setting one of my bike with studded tyres .
    What do you think
Or is it over kill for England,
I like the bike , looks grand
