Can you guess the road from the thumbnail?
We climbed 3 famous cycling climbs starting from Bormio town in Italy. Stelvio Pass, Gavia Pass & Cancano Lakes roads can all be reached directly from this mountain resort.
This has to be one of the best regions for cycling in the world. Bormio is a very popular destination for road cycling. From here you can reach the 3 mentioned roads (Stelvio, Gavia and Cancano) but also Mortirolo and Livigno. In this video I am showing you what to expect if you decide to ride the 3 cycling climbs:
– Stelvio Pass ( Passo Stelvio in Italian) – 2757m – can be climbed from 3 different sides: East from Prato, North from Val Mustair in Switzerland and West from Bormio. My personal favorite is the one from Bormio as I think it’s more beautiful than the most famous side, the one from Prato allo Stelvio. Stelvio Pass was named several times as the best road in the world. Cycling Stelvio is not easy especially due to the high altitude but feel free to check my Strava link for the route : https://www.strava.com/activities/11861633932
– Gavia Pass ( Passo Gavia in Italian ) – 2621m – can be climbed from 2 different sides: South from Ponte di Legno and North from Bormio. Cycling Gavia is similar to Stelvio, maybe just a little bit easier. Here is my Strava link for the route: https://www.strava.com/activities/11855054002
– Cancano Lakes ( Laghi di Cancano in Italian ) – 1900m – are 3 beautiful mountain lakes created for electricity production purposes. They can be reached by climbing a beautiful road with many hairpins, starting also from Bormio.

Another great video, of some breath taking views. Looks like you really enjoyed the riding.. I was curious to know if you felt any shortness of breath on any of the climbs once you got above 1500m?
