Little Ripper was ready to take on a new challenge, and the moguls beneath the Mercury SuperChair had been calling her name all day. Not exactly a snowboarder’s paradise, these bumps are tricky for anyone, let alone someone so new to the mountain. The trail doesn’t even have an official name, but she didn’t hesitate. She wanted to see what it was all about.
I’ve always been drawn to moguls myself, though they’ve humbled me more times than I can count. Back when I skied on 150cm Elans, I was starting to hold my own. But ever since upgrading to the 188 Brahmas, moguls became a whole different beast. Still, I followed her lead, and we tackled this unmarked line head-on, right under the chairlift for everyone to see.
She’s still mastering her toe edge, and riding goofy has its quirks, but what Little Ripper lacks in polish she more than makes up for in fearless curiosity and raw determination. Later, she admitted to me that she always focuses on practicing her best form under the lift. Judging by the cheers and shouts of encouragement she often gets from the chair, I’d say she’s doing a great job.
Be sure to stick around to the end where she proudly exclaims she’s already better than me after only 8 days total on the hill 🥹
