Geraint Thomas is one of Britain’s most popular and successful cyclists, a Tour de France winner and double Olympic gold medalist who’s also known as a team man willing to give everything for the cause.

Speaking direct from the massage table and in reflective mood, the man everyone calls ‘G’ looks back on the career-defining moment when he realised he could make the switch from Tour de France support man to yellow jersey contender in his own right. He discusses what it took mentally, physically and tactically to make this massive step, and what it felt like to achieve his dream to actually win the world’s greatest and toughest bike race in 2018.

Now entering his 19th – and most likely final – season as a professional, Geraint also talks about how cycling has changed, what he still wants to achieve and how he’s now looking for a new challenge when he finally hangs up his lycra.

  1. Happy to be the first to comment on this great video featuring my favourite bike rider! G is one of the few top cyclists who doesn`t appear to have a single enemy in the peleton. His courage, unselfish attitude, team spirit and his achievements have placed him in a unique position in cycling. He has a great sense of humour, a very small ego, despite all he has achieved, and gives the impression to us fellow bike riders of much much lower ability that if you were lucky enough to meet up with him when out on a ride he would always have a few friendly words as he caught you up and before disappearing into the distance.

  2. Really great interview guys. Followed G since juniors and I’m so so glad he got his moment at the Tour.

Is there a nicer guy in the peloton? You can tell how much respect the other riders have for him too.

Was lucky enough to meet him briefly at his book launch last year, and totally bottled it. Came away kicking myself, coz he’s been a hero for so long.

G, please go into media when you finish because you are so good on camera and pods.

    Chapeau!

P.s. well done for letting him chat away.

  3. Great interview really well done. Brilliant insight into a stellar career, so relaxed in talking about everything hes done. As others have commented he has no "l am this l am that " about him, just completely down to earth. Heres hoping his final season as a pro brings him a victory or several. Chapeau G❤️
