  1. i celebrate this site. i once made my living restoring bikes like these at Sprocketts Recycled Bicycles, in Seattle.
    made my heart sing.
    talking about cables @15:30:
Tri-Flow squirted into housings and rubbed along new cables, especially on brakes, gives a supple, powerful, modulation. Smells good too!

  2. From all the videos of you that I've watched, I never saw you remove the seatpost once. Or are you doing it off camera? Stuck seatposts are the worst.

  3. The only quibble i have with this video is, "Should you even bother with a bottom-of-the-line bike like this which has bolt-on wheels and joke plastic pedals?" because there are plenty of bikes for $100 or £75 in the UK that are far more rewarding to clean & restore.

  4. A really good technique to fully clean a freewheel is to put it on the hub, get some WD40, and an old rag (like a strip from a bedsheet) and run it between two cogs, spray some WD40 between the cogs, and floss the rag back & forth against the body (which will spin the freewheel more and more because it will lock in one direction and spin the other, and after doing all 6 spaces between on a 5-speed freewheel the teeth are completely clean down to the body … In about 60 secs your feewheel will be totally clean on the outside …

  5. Suggestion : use some black enamel nail polish to touch up the brake levers so they are all black again. Also works great on mks sylvan or campagnolo superleggera pedals …

  6. Pretty sure that's not a 1983 model.
SIS wasn't around till 1984 and only on the Dura Ace, so definitely wouldn't be on an entry level Raleigh till at least late 80s. I'd say mid to late-90s – just an opinion.

  7. I purchased one in 2020 not sure what model it was , got it for $10 cleaned it up and sold it for $150 . Only made a $40 profit, but the satisfaction of seen it back on the road was so great. 🙂

  8. I have been thinking about doing this for a long time. My neighbour used to encourage me to do this or start working on electric bikes when it started booming. He works on daily city bikes and enjoyed watching him fixing them up.
This was not enough to push me to work on bikes.
Now seeing you working on old racebikes as passionate as you are this is getting very inspiring for me to start and learn this 😁
Got some much needed tools now and currently looking for old racebikes to resto. The satisfaction I am gunna get is what I was looking for to get me motivated. Thanks and keep these videos rolling love them ❤

  9. well done !!

please , tell me what lubricants you use; the light green one for bearings, oil-olive, copper grease for threaded connections, screws, white (5) ?? I'm looking for this green semi-liquid for bearings. Thank you.

  10. I've got an old heavy steel bicycle that needs the ultrasonic treatment but being in Hampshire it's days are numbered. Fascinating videos, wish this service was available everywhere.
