Belarus joined the medal tables at the UCI Juniors Track Cycling World Championships in Invercargill, New Zealand, on Thursday with gold in the men’s scratch race.
Anton Muzychkin won the exciting race after a brave three-man attack on the first of 40 laps. The trio of Muzychkin, Columbia’s Jordan Parra Arias and Kazakhstan’s Robert Gaineyev put a lap on the field with 27 laps remaining, but it was the Belarusian who won the final three-way sprint.
“I’m very far away from our home and I’m very happy to be a winner here. It’s an incredible feeling for me,” said the winner afterwards.
Australian Zachary Lewis produced a huge personal best to clock 1:02.303 in winning the men’s kilometre time trial in front of New Zealand’s Dylan Kennett, who set a national record of 1:02.957 with his second place.
Meanwhile Australia’ Taylah Jennings earned her second world junior title of these championships with victory in the points race, following on from gold in the team pursuit the previous evening.
