  1. Don't forget that Mt Washington has the worst weather on earth so that's also something fun to contend with on the sea to summit tri.

  2. There’s Barrelman Niagara – a 70.3 distance point-to-point race in southern Ontario in September, and there’s the Toronto Triathlon Festival in July with a swim in Lake Ontario and bike/run along some of the city’s highways.

  3. Working my way up to the big events. Kansas City Tri and Omaha (Nebraska) Tri as well as some half marathons local to me are already on the schedule for me in '25. Maybe in 2026 or 2027 will be my transition to the big races. We all gotta start somewhere.

  4. My first ever triathlon overall was Ironman Austria and I chose it because of its beauty. Flew all the way from Los Angeles and instead of picking one in the US I decided to fly across the ocean. It was worth it. Such a beautiful course. I liked that the bike was just one lap. But Mark, I have to say, that was not a rolling course. It was hilly AF. People were getting off their bikes and walking up. How hilly it was caught me by surprise and by the time the marathon started I had no legs left from those hills. Still super worth it.

  5. Was there ever an accedent with sharke? I always think about that because there are some much "remote" destinations like australia, south afrika, Hawaii, where sharks are quite normal to see

  6. Special note about Wildflower is that they have many race options in addition to the long course option. I’ve done the Olympic distance several times as a college student (they have a dedicated start for college teams, which is really cool) and can say it provides the same challenge and beauty as the long course event in a smaller package. This is great for people who are not quite confident in the 70.3 distance but still want the Wildflower experience. It was one of my favorite races and I have many fond memories closing out the college season with my teammates there.

  7. After doing my first ever triathlon (70.3)last year close to home I will do the same this year as well as a half distance in an former (now flooded) surface mining pit and on top was able to get an entry to the Berlin Marathon. So training is already on the way!

  8. 1066 middle distance triathlon down on the south coast of England in Bexhill is a brilliant triathlon. 70.3 for £80 now that is a bargain. Also Castle to Coast by Fullsteam Events is a brilliant and a very hard triathlon as it takes on the Surrey hills and part of the South Downs.

  9. I've done a series of Ironman events…and it's a good experience, but the entry prices are nuts.. nevertheless the vibe that I felt is that they look at you like a pile of money, they don't really care or even fake it. if I do any more Ironman event I will be very surgical in the event I will select

  10. Interesting list. After 38 seasons, Embrun is the only race on my bucket list. Of course. Number one on all triathletes bucket lists shoulde be – support my local events.

  11. Huskisson Triathlon Festival in Oz is celebrating their 20th anniversary in Feb 2025. There are multiple events from yoga, swims, runs, short/long/ultra triathlons and Aquabike. A fantastic weekend of fun for thousands of athletes.

  12. I'd include challeneg wanaka. Possible one of the most picturesque races in the world. Although I prefered the old course (Swim in lake wanaka, ride out to glendu then turn around head back through town, up to hawea and over the red bridge. Then the run course is the outlet track and gunn rd). Its still a true bucket list race.
