Reduced travel this year meant I had a good shot at making it. Weather looked good, cold but clear, and I was excited about my route selection. I started on Christmas Eve on 6:30 to start off with a nice long ride into sunrise. Unfortunately, I underestimated the low temps. By evening I felt that this might have knocked me out, and two days later I had a cold that was mild but deterred me squeezing in longer rides at the end of the challenge.
Failure? Not at all. I was fit enough to ride out with the little one almost every day to explore the city, and while it kind of cost me the Internet fame of finishing this thing, the early morning ride was one of the best I ever had. Yes, I was freezing, but what I will remember for a long time is the serene beauty of the frosty landscape.
Good luck to all those outside who are still riding!
