I currently own a Farley 5, and I'm very happy with it. So much that I use it year-round on looser and rougher trails, and I'm thinking about going fat for a lot of summer-fall trail riding. I need a suspension fork for this to really work for all the things I want to do.
I could put a suspension fork on the Farley 5, but even with the current Mastodon sale, it doesn't seem to make $$ sense.
So I'm comparing the Trek Farley 7 vs. the Borealis Flume Ultimate, these bikes:

I've compared the specs and ready many reviews. Both are good. Currently the Flume is $300 more but that gets you several nicer components (brakes, fork model, GX shifter, handlebar), and a frame that's GTG with 120mm travel, while the Farley is only rated for 80mm travel. The Flume also has skinnier 3.8" tires which are a good fit for my summer-fall plans, while the Farley has the familiar 4.5" tires that will do everything but be slower in dry conditions.
Can anyone comment on how these bikes feel in actual riding, or what differences I would notice?
