I recently purchased a new turbo trainer without a cassette (suito T elite). I bought a new 11 speed cassette and installed it, but when I attach the bike, it makes a clear grinding sound that you can actually feel through the pedals. You can hear this the most clearly at the end of the video here.
Shifting is also sluggish, and it will sometimes not change up or skip a rung entirely. It also will not change into the largest ring of the cassette. It's shimano ultegra so on the road changes smoothly even underload. Both the grinding and the gear changing seems better on the larger rings.
Some things to note.
– I've ensured that the bike was properly aligned on the trainer.
– Both cassettes were 11 speed, but they are different brands and the cassette I have on my road wheel has larger large rings than the one on the turbo trainer. I haven't tightened the cassette fully with a torque wrench yet.
– I had the bike serviced recently and the chain was fine – but obviously it and the old cassette have wear on them that the new one does now
– I had a quick tinker with the barrel adjuster cable (tried a few half turns either way) but it didn't seem to sort the issue. I wanted to check that I wasn't missing something else before I spent a lot of time on this.
Is there anything else I should try, or should my first step be getting an identical cassette to my road wheel?
