Hi all,
First off I’d like to say thanks to u/ahotdog who answered many questions I had before embarking on my trip!
I recently made a similar post in r/japanTravel.

I am currently cycle touring through Japan from the North to the South with the intention of making the most of my 90 day visa. So far I have arrived in Sapporo, travelled up to Wakkanai on the West coast and back down, passing Lake Shikotsu, Hakodate/Aomori then Lake Towada. The places I’ve been so far have been spectacular, and I’ve met many friendly locals along the way. I’m currently in Akita planning the next stages of my trip. I have around 60-65 days remaining before I have a flight booked back home out of Haneda. I planned on cycling to Kagoshima, stopping at Hiroshima and Nagasaki as they are of interest to me, with the intention of using a shinkansen from the south back to Tokyo as I think I would enjoy the experience having never been on high-speed rail before. I have tentative plans of cycling mostly centrally down Honshu to Nagano, and then visiting the historic areas north-east of Nagoya.

As a general comment I have to say I’ve been surprised at how warm and humid it has been – to the point where 5-6L of electrolytes per day is only just sufficient!

Part of the reason for my travels to Japan have been to experience the culture here, but I’ve also always been fascinated with Japan’s industry from an industry/engineering/science perspective. As such, I’d like to either visit some science/technology museums (perhaps something similar to a national air and space museum) and or book a tour with a significant Japanese tech company, such as Toyota/Toshiba etc. From what I gather most of this would be concentrated in the Nagoya/Tokyo area.

So far Japanese locals who I’ve spoken to (who work in these industries like myself) have said there’s pretty much nothing worth visiting in the way of museums as they are aimed at children and there’s nothing to be found in the way of industry/factory tours, which I found surprising. Further to all of the above, my budget and itinerary are very flexible; because I am cycling I don’t really have anything planned more than a few days in advance.

As such I’d be keen to know what recommendations/suggestions the bicycletouring community might have so I can plan my itinerary accordingly.

I’ve [attached some photos of my trip so far](https://imgur.com/a/aNJfzbO) in case people are interested!
