Derailleur incorrectly adjusted / misaligned?

So my derailleur makes a clunky sound and noticed that the chain sometimes "snaps" from the derailleur on to the casette. It only happens when i put my bike on the wahoo kickr (which has the same casette as my bike) and with the chain on the smaller cogs. Do i need to adjust my derailleur or (perhaps a difficult question to answer) is it possible that improperly placed my casette on the wahoo kickr, even though the lockring is properly installed.
