Colnago has unveiled the Y1RS and Liam got hands on it to see just how unique this bike is in the flesh.

The Y1RS is a radical new aero race bike, which is claimed to be faster than anything else on the market.

It features tube shapes that make use of the UCI’s latest 8:1 depth-to-width rule and seatpost-placement regulation.

Colnago says the result makes the Y1RS faster than the competition, potentially giving UAE Emirates team leader, Tadej Pogacar, the fastest bike in the peloton.

But Colnago also claims to have made the Y1RS just as stiff as the V4RS, while claiming a weight of 7.45kg in a team build with pedals and cages.

However, there are plenty of voices calling this a rather ugly duckling. Here are the crucial details, along with Liam’s first impressions.

  1. A couple of points, 1) this is how a bike looks when you prioritize speed over looks or tradition and 2) I’m pretty sure Pogacar’s mechanics will find a way to make his bike reach the UCI minimum which means he will be riding it on all stages. Plus he climbs at such high speeds that aero is still important.

  2. Don't care for the looks, lets get wacky moving forward. It's not like Bastion or Frameworks are going anywhere if you want something more traditional to stare at. This is interesting to say the least. Am I the only one who thinks that cobbled classics and that handlebar system is a combination for trouble?

  3. No instrument mount. deceptive … even if the other bikes were wind-tunneled without, it won’t be apples to apples given the design. If all were run through with a mount and computer …OK. Also, obvious whatever the solution is not going to be attractive which is why it wasn’t on the bike they gave you for this video.

  4. I have the RC. I'll give you that looking at it on a computer you can say what you want. But when you actually have it and ride it you'll have a different opinion. Once again a review without hands on experience. BTW the RC cockpit is the most ergonomic bar I've ever ridden. Who cares if it's aero.

  5. With the watt savings year after year its just a matter of time to get a bike so aero that the only thing you need to do its just seat in the saddle, no need to use the pedals to cruise at 40 kph😂😂😂

  6. Better be sure you like your saddle on this bike because changing it to something with a different rail to surface height might present problems with the limited adjustment length of that seatpost.

  7. Now I'm a 100% MTB dude who is terrified to ever ride a bike on a road with cars, so take my opinion for what it's worth, but I think the bike looks freaking amazing! 🔥

  8. V4rs wasn’t stiff at all. So I guess this aero bike isn’t as stiff as it should be. Wish they build it like the S5. I hate the super thin walls squishy carbon walls.
