Today, we’re diving into a shocking incident that took place at the UCI Track Champions League final in London on December 7, 2024. Let’s talk about British Olympic champion cyclist Katy Marchant and the horrifying crash that stunned the world.”
“Katy Marchant, a decorated British cyclist, was competing in the women’s keirin event when tragedy struck during the first round. A high-speed collision with German cyclist Alessa-Catriona Propster sent both riders crashing over the barriers—landing among the spectators. The dramatic scene led to injuries for not only the cyclists but also several members of the audience.”
“Marchant suffered a broken forearm and was rushed to a nearby hospital after receiving on-site medical care. Thankfully, her condition is reported to be stable, and the injuries sustained by others, while serious, are not life-threatening. However, four spectators required medical attention due to the impact of this horrifying crash.”
“British Cycling and the UCI have suspended all remaining races for the evening, prioritizing the safety of athletes and spectators. In a joint statement, they thanked the medical team for their swift response and expressed heartfelt wishes for the recovery of all those affected.”
“This incident has reignited concerns about safety measures in high-speed track cycling events. With crashes like this raising questions, will we see stricter safety protocols in the future? It’s a conversation that the cycling community can no longer ignore.”

Very nasty looking track cycling crash at the UCI Champions League Finale at the London Velodrome, 7th December 2024. The competition was cancelled after this. Apparently the worst injury was a broken forearm for Katy Marchant. Wishing a swift recovery to all involved. #baanwielrennen crash

😂
This was just sheer pig-headed stupidity from the athletes. A split second decision to keep cycling even though their bikes were clearly entangled. Had they been smart they could have just controlled the incident and had a retake but instead they tried to power through and lost control. Plain dumb if you ask me.
This video appears an amalgam of other accidents. There are scenes here from some other event and time that had nothing to do with what happened yesterday.
