In Plovdiv, Bulgaria, there is a slum where more than 70,000 gypsies (or Romani people) call home. I was so curious to find out how they are living, so I went there and I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw! Thanks for watching, and comment down below with your thoughts on this story 🙂

  1. I went into Stolipinovo feeling nervous and intimidated — unsure of what I’d see, who I’d meet, and how I’d be received. But as the day unfolded, those feelings completely melted away. What I discovered instead was a community full of warmth, resilience, and incredible people with big hearts and inspiring stories.

This experience reminded me yet again why I love what I do — it’s easy to label or stereotype places from the outside, but until you walk the streets, talk to the locals, and share a meal, you’ll never truly understand. Stolipinovo further proves that every place has its own magic!

Thanks for watching and I am looking forward to reading your comments, thoughts and reactions down below!

  2. It's good to see more channels humanizing Romani people. Europeans often say extremely mask-off sh*t about them (including in these comments) – but many Europeans tell themselves r*cism is a USA thing. Why not be curious about broader societal conditions influencing problematic things? To this day, there's very LOW scholarly curiosity re: Romani HoIocaust experiences. That's pretty foul to not care about, cuz we ignore the lessons to our peril. Even as we name problematic stuff in every culture, let's humanize our neighbors.

P.S. Obviously, child marriage ain't cool. Reality check: similar coercive control is often legal or given a green light by judicial apathy in "civilized" societies. Think about how Canada, Germany, U.K., USA, etc. handles SA cases – contrary to crime-show propaganda, mere accountability (much less justice) is exceedingly rare. I mean, rich/powerful people in "civilized" societies get away with whatever they want. So, emphasizing how Romani people do this foul practice is…a choice. It reveals a deeply-embedded worship of power. BTW, there are Romani women activists out there. Listen to their voices. Let them lead. Humanizing Romani people is a irreplaceable step to ensure problematic practices disappear.

  3. Hello! I'm a fan of yours from China, and I absolutely adore your videos. May I share your videos on Chinese video platforms? I'll include your video link and name in the video description.Looking forward to your reply! Thank you!

  4. They are not denied education, in most countries in Europe education is free and parents are obligated to send their kids to the school. Some countries even offer everything they'd need to learn(from pens and books to backpacks and even a daily meal). The lack of education is the fault of the parents who don't believe in it.

  5. A comment to all Bulgarians watching that video, displaying negativity towards the Bulgarian guide – Hristo:
    1) The guy is an absolute masterclass in Bulgarian history, traditions and culture. I know him quite well through his representation as an international student in multiple venues. He had debated Russian speakers about the origins of the Cyrillic alphabet. Since he also speaks Russian fluently, he had always clearly dismissed the common myth that the alphabet is created for the Russians or by them. I have, literally, seen the surprised faces (of Russian-speaking natives), when he eloquently covered the topic. Leading to them changing their opinions and admitting "ignorance". The video obviously does not contain his full answer, but rather a cut of "nodding".
    2) He brings a Bulgarian flag to every single secluded place he has visited.
    3) The topic, scenario, and video montage are not of his choosing. He is simply a local guy with knowledge, who has a good command of English. Thus, topics and highlights, are entirely out of his control. The video deeps dive into other aspects and chases a particular meaning.

Some of the negativism reminds me of the recent scandal with a theatre play directed by John Malkovich that allegedly "mocks" a great Bulgarian military victory. The play at the National Theatre "Ivan Vazov" caused protests, acts of aggression and unnecessary tension. When in fact was the usual spasm of utter desperation of a population that sold itself for nothing. Despite the Ottoman rule and the Soviet boot, we should more often look in the mirror and realise that we have been our biggest enemies all along. The Generals from DS, Boyko Borissov, Delyan Peevski, Dogan, Tsatsarov, Ivan Kostov, (and many more), are all crooked, but also Bulgarians. Those who secured their power grip by "doing nothing" and remaining silent are also Bulgarians, it is us, the people. Remember – Germany had a revolt against the UdSSR (1953), Hungary had one (1956), Poland (1956; 1981), and Czechoslovakia (1968), we are one of the few without a major uprising. Why? Because we lack unity! The Gypsy problem is a separate world in our country that exists, regardless of whether we admit it or not. Of course, they will play the victim card. Hence, he was simply translating, not transmitting any message.

  6. Fellow Americans, you better be grateful for what you have here in the US. Nice houses, clothes, food and everything.

Be grateful that soon you will get Trump as your president in January 2025 and he will make America great again.

    He will:
    <> lower the gas prices,
<> crime rates will go down,
    <> taxes will go down,
    <> wars will be stopped,
<> food prices will go down,
<> affordable housing and health care will be available
<> government spending will be stopped,
<> killing babies through abortion will be stopped
<> ILLEGAL immigrants will be deported to their countries,
<> gangs and traffickers will be arrested.

Thank GOD that kamala harris did not win the presidency because if she did, America would have become a 3rd world country full of slums, criminals and corruption.

  7. LOVE Pavel and all of his friends. They are incredibly resilient, warm and the true heart of that community. I wish only the best and success for Pavel in the future and that he never loses that incredible smile and personality. Thank you Drew for showing us this side of Europe that so many of us are blind to.

  8. I just love watching all your videos. Never knew anything about the country besides being in Europe. I coming from European decent my mother being born in Germany she never spoke about the country my grandfather when he was alive only spoke Russian no English so I never learned. The people in Bulgaria are so sweet the little ones I was so impressed with there manners such sweet children. Also impressed how the one learned English from reading.
It’s a shame how most have to live but the people are so nice. More Americans need to learn from all your videos. I know the world is not perfect humanity has many issues but kindness goes a long way. Much love to all the people & families & thank you once again for showing the world the beautiful people around the world.
