Let me start by saying that both me and my gf use our bikes for daily commuting to work. We need them for our everyday lifes. We dont have a car.
We just got back from a 2 week holliday, still have some days before going back to work, so we decided to get the bikes and go somewhere.
We get outside to our shared building’s bike shed, that has a keypad lock. We get inside and notice a wierd smell. Like burnt metal.
We look to our bikes and the the D-Lock connecting them is almost cut through!
There was an additional lock securing the bikes to the wall, so even if the bike thiefs managed to cut the D-lock they still had another one to cut.
We don’t know what to think, we are in shock. My girlfriend’s hybrid bike was recently bougth, and she spent £550 on it. I have a more modest hybrid bike that I had for almost 4 years now.
Then a neighbour shows up, stating that she was taking the laundry inside when she heard the sound of an electric buzz saw and a wied looking guy in front of the shed.
She screamed and started filming, but the theives wearing masks and you cant really see their face. It had happened less then an hour ago.
It was some random teenagers that somehow had the code for the shed. If the neighbour didnt interviened they would have cut the lock.
Just to think of the expenses of getting the bikes replaced or having to pay for public transport until we got a replacement.
I’m still a bit shocked…
