In autumn, I bikepacked with my Brompton folding bike from my husband’s cottage 850km (it turned out to be!) across Sweden and Denmark, then hopped on a train at the German border, and zoomed back to London. I bought my rail ticket in advance, but otherwise planned the route loosely, giving myself 11 days plus 2 days contingency. Nice to feel free and easy.
I love cycle camping tours like this, doing journeys that I need to do anyway, but going overland, slowly, to see what is there. I was really keen to see more of Denmark, especially Jutland, which is why I chose this route. In Denmark, I camped “semi-wild” using the Danish national network of “primitive” camp spots, shelters and woods. Not everything worked out, as you will see – I made at least one quite big mistake. Denmark’s network of primitive camp spots, shelters etc, is a wonderful thing, absolutely to be treasured – it must make a huge contribution to helping the people who use it feel good, and live well. To be alone in the darkness, sip tea, and listen to the sound of nature at night is beautiful.
For anyone interesting in Denmark’s primitive campspot network, this is the official website https://udinaturen.dk/
And the RULES! IMPORTANT!!!!!!! in English are here https://eng.naturstyrelsen.dk/experience-nature/sleeping-outside-in-nature
This is the second film of three. I had already ridden five days across Sweden. Now I was on my way through northern Denmark. Thank you for watching! Last one in this series coming soon!
