An autumnal cycle ride from Wolverhampton to Birmingham along the New Main Line Canal

A non-stop 4x speed of the canal towpath from Wolverhampton (just below the mainline station) to Old Turn Junction just outside Birmingham City Centre

The towpath along here is really very good – wide and a smooth tarmac surface in good condition. There were a couple of areas where the leaves made it a bit slippery but no issues

It had been a lot sunnier earlier in the day going in the opposite direction and it really picked out the autumn colours, but it was more overcast on the return ride making it a bit greyer

The detour at the Stewart Aqueduct has been in place for at least 2 years and I wish they’d look at fixing it as the detour is not that pleasant – the up ramp is very steep and it’s relatively unpleasant cycling past he M5 refurbishment works and try to cross the road
