Five years after images of the Notre-Dame Cathedral on fire shocked the world, French President Emmanuel Macron visited the monument on Friday, November 29, and praised the efforts of over 2,000 craftspeople who helped restore it to its former glory.

Speaking in front of the designers, builders and architects who helped restore Notre-Dame, he said workers had done the “impossible” by healing a “national wound” after the fire on April 19, 2019. “The blaze at Notre Dame was a national wound, and you have been its remedy through will, through work, through commitment,” he said, adding the cathedral’s re-opening will be a “shock of hope.”

The international team of craftspeople made every effort to remain faithful to the original look of the cathedral, which will welcome visitors and worshippers again over the December 7-8 weekend.

After more than five years of frenetic reconstruction work, Notre Dame cathedral showed its new self to the world Friday, with rebuilt soaring ceilings and creamy good-as-new stonework erasing somber memories of its devastating fire in 2019.

French TV showed live pictures of President Emmanuel Macron visiting the iconic cathedral, which looked as worshippers might have experienced it in medieval times, with its wide, open spaces filled with bright light on a crisp, sunny winter’s day that lit up the vibrant colors of the stained-glass windows.

The flames and smoke that tore through the stone building’s roof caused immense damage, and the repairs cost more than $700 million.

  1. Pr Macron : Thanks to you and France for restoring Notre Dame , so much European History, Christian Culture, Defense of Europe. I hope Christian Rock Concerts and Pink Floyd, etc. are also organized for the Youth .While all of you are still renovating the exterior, we watch with disbelief how the new EU Council Pr Costa, and the new commissioners Kallas and Kos, on their first day on their new Job, instead of presenting a plan for EUROPE, they went to Kiev with Funds for Zelenskiy, € 1.5 billion every month for at least 12 months , to finance the War another year. Many EU Taxpayers ask : Why get so excited for extending this absurd War for at least another year ? On their first day of their EU Jobs ? Who does that ? We are not Children anymore , that excitement is because money is changing hands. " Top EU officials visiting Ukraine promise more sanctions against Russia" , Euronews. The excitement of Costa, Kallas and Kos , extending the War and disbursing € billions , and fees and envelopes, is Banana Republic behavior, in my opinion. Very sad and very incompetent. Only a pervert or a corrupt Politician would be so excited about War , and when Europe has so many problems waiting for solutions. Thanks for Notre Dame !
