I have a 1997 Klein that's still on the original wheels. I've been searching for good condition used rim brake wheels to swap for a long time. Mostly ebay, where used Mavic CrossMax could go up to $500. I don't know if it's new (did Mavic stop selling online in the US for a while?), but last month I saw they had the CrossRide UB 26 rim brake 9X100-135 QR wheels on their site. I ordered a pair using their 10% off first purchase coupon, but now they've got a better deal with them under $300, down from $350 list price.
It looks like there's still a name brand wheel for those of us running older bikes with 26" wheels.
