Cyclists and Car Drivers can coexist. I’m examining examples of good & bad overtaking on the UK roads. This road is 50mph. In this clip we see three examples from the Black British Cyclist. When overtaking a cyclist at 30mph, you should leave a minimum of 1.5m clearance. What do you think the distance should be on this 50mph road?

Further details on rules of the road and safety can be found in the UK Highway Code

  1. Personally yea I agree vulnerable road users should have something in place to safe guard them, on the flip side the road rules need to apply to every road user, be that bicycles, horses, cars or bikes.. I can see why it’s dangerous for these road users but if they expect their own rules then they need to do the upmost to protect themselves firstly and then the rules also need to be followed mutually… for example.. if a bikes overtaking you in traffic they don’t leave themselves 6 feet of space, the same rider will I turn moan when you do the same overtaking them further up the road… and I’ve certainly never seen a car mounts the pavement and drive up that to avoid a red light.. the rules are good in theory but in practice it’s all just hypocrisy!! Anyway that’s my 2 pence 😂

  2. With the new uk law , these spandex twats now cycle side by side as they have more priority over a car that you have to pay 36 + types of tax , mandatory insurance and have licensed in order to be on the road legally

  3. Reason why I leave large gap when overtaking bikes(if possible) is because too many fn times they have just decided to cut across the road and go to some smaller road.
Had like 2 bumps(car and bike touch and rider falls over) and 1 close call because of that.
I personally recommend bikers to use any other road than high speed ones if possible.
When I am driving 80km/h on hilly road I dont have time to guess if I should just drive on other lane and risk car accident or give jsut enough space so my mirror wont hit you.
Different story if flat road where I can se that no car is coming towards me but here most roads are either hilly or winding.

  4. There ought to be something in the Highway code about cyclists having to be aware of the queuing they are causing to traffic. If that is difficult then the Code should require all cyclist riding on public roads to dismount safely every 200 meters to allow traffic to flow faster.

  5. Absolutely not, I feel like I’m my city these bikers want to be respected as cars with there bikes then cut theww traffic and get right in the way of everyone. They also pick the busiest streets to do it on when there is clearly two other roads that have less traffic. Half of them have off road bikes and can ride on the sidewalk, whoever invented this needs to reevaluate,
