minecraft server staff here, we actually look for patterns in mining, so we will look if its every specifc block length or something, if it isnt and you do it over and over, every break leads to diamonds then we issue an xray ban, theres a pretty long thought process that leads to us banning for xray. if haste was used sometimes we will turn on xray to see if all the diamonds in the area are gone since thats also a pretty big giveaway

I have never used xray, but I feel like, why would most servers care?? As long as you aren't being an ass then what's the big deal? Of course, I'm also thinking from the perspective of someone that would mine 3 stacks of diamonds, say, "wow this is all I'll ever need" and then never xray again.
