Mountain Biking in the Lowlands of Scotland to the summit of West Lomond in the County Of Fife.
Cross country mountain biking in the Lowlands of Scotland really does not get much better than this. The Lomond Hills Regional Park is littered with a variety of mtb trails that are rideable all year round. This 22 mile adventure starts at Markinch in Fife at the Train Station carpark (free parking) and travels through the Balbirnie Estate in Glenrothes. It’s a steady climb all the way to East Lomond before joining the wonderful cross country trail to Craigmead. This hard packed trail can be ridden on a mountain bike all year round and is a real pleasure with a big, wide open, country landscape. There are toilets and picnic facilities at Craigmead which is a convenient resting point before taking on the climb to West Lomond. The all round views from the summit of West Lomond are spectacular and well worth the short but challenging final mountain bike climb to get there.
I completed this adventure with Gary Alexander who has a Mountain Biking Channel on YouTube. You can find him on the following link: https://www.youtube.com/@UC1WjtcseGci3NTIK5cAkWpw

All of the action footage was filmed with a GoPro Hero 11 black. All of the drone footage was filmed with a DJI Mavic Air 2S. I was riding a Cube Stereo Hybrid TM 160.

Lomond Hills Regional Park:
The Lomond Hills Regional Park is made up of 25 square miles of moorland, lochs and farmland. It became Scotland’s first Regional Park in 1986 due to its importance for recreation and conservation. The Lomond Hills themselves are Fife’s most prominent landmarks. And they are a welcome sight for Fifers returning home after travelling outwith the Kingdom.
There area has numerous access points and a path network which crisscross its 6474 hectares.
The above description was taken from The Fife Coast & Countryside web site which can be found on the following link: https://fifecoastandcountrysidetrust.co.uk/walks/lomond-hills/

West Lomond:
West Lomond is the highest point in the county of Fife, Scotland and the highest peak in the Lomond Hills. Its cone-shaped summit, which is the remains of a volcanic plug, rises above an escarpment of Carboniferous sandstone and limestone. Extract from Wikipedia.

Trail stats:
I much prefer the Trailforks total climbing stats as they are far more accurate.

  5. I went up that West Lomond track from my house in Glenrothes last week , up to Craigmead cp from Leslie then onto the track to West Lomond but I couldn't make it all the way up , only got part way up the hill past the first steep rocky bit where you turned onto the muddy part , I had enough by that time lol , I don't have a mountain bike and tried on a Fat tyre E bike but it has no big rear climbing gear , I have looked at MBT E Bikes but they are so flipping expensive for a decent brand with front n rear suspension 😳😅
