  1. So the train you saw going underground past the castle is just going through a tunnel towards and from the station. It's one of the mainlines in and out of Edinburgh Waverley station.
Weather wise the trees blossom around May and our weather is usually mild from May to September. But Edinburgh is known as the Windy City for a reason! Also in the summer, whilst it can get up to 30 degrees celcius, because it is on the coast the city can be shrouded in a haar making summer mornings cold. We can also experience four seasons in one day so layered clothing is the recommendation!

  2. Edinburgh looks amazing. Never been to Scotland , I bet you two would love to visit, by the amount of wows there were 😂 I too, love old buildings, castles, churches and cathedrals x

  3. Hi Steve and Lindsey
Right now parts of the UK have a bit of snow.
So of course everything stops, schools are closed, railways not running properly.
It’s around 0c and beautifully white.
Although only about 2 inches of snow in the last 48 hours.

I’m not quite sure what our problem is.
    😂

  4. Edinburgh in its early days was nicknamed Auld Reekie which is Scots for Old Smoky. Lots of buildings cloistered together coal fires burning it must have been a sight for sore eyes.

  5. I agree with other comments that there are better videos about Edinburgh. This guy couldn't pronounce Edinburgh correctly (unlike you two) and spent far too much time talking about taxis, left luggage, card surcharges, toilets, hotel rooms, directions to ticket machines, shopping Malls ………….😀 He talks too fast and the picture flicks from one thing to another with no explanation. No dates or history mentioned either – check another video you'll enjoy it more. I'm sure if you went you'd do more research first to know what you were looking at. Beautiful ancient city – very hilly. The train in the road is called a tram and they also have them in New Orleans.

  6. Don't forget to pack your drone to experience those shots from the air, and don't forget to try and ignore all the tourist scams and over priced tat! I guarantee you won't get any goose bumps upon arrival.

  7. I love Edinburgh! I live in Fife, across the Firth of Forth and we can see Edinburgh Castle from some elevated areas. Its such a beautiful city with so much history. You'd love it!

Ps, I'm pretty sure that what you thought was black pudding on the breakfast plate was actually haggis 😊

  8. As a Geordie and a big beer lover, I'm embarrassed to say that most of my trips to Edinburgh over the years have been for pub crawls (the pubs are many and great btw). So, I've missed a lot of the fascinating stuff on this video. Top marks!

  9. Arguably Britain's most beautiful city (though London and Oxford might argue the point). My home city of Dunedin in New Zealand is named for the Gaelic form of Edinburgh's name, and is partly modelled on it. Sadly, you won't have many cobblestoned streets in the US because the car rules over pedestrians. Oh, and if you like unusual dark nooks and crannies, look up Edinburgh's Mary King's Close – a restored 17th-century street in the heart of the city.

  10. Not Edinburgh, but the Wallace Monument near Stirling is amazing. I'm from Glasgow and there's lovely architecture here as long as you manage to get a look before it burns down.
I used to work at The Scotsman newspaper in Edinburgh when it was in the North Bridge building. Edinburgh is great.

  11. I was walking along Princes Street opposite Jenners one day when an American couple stopped me and asked directions to the Scott Monument. I just pointed up.

  12. By the way, Edinburgh's famous stone masons (responsible for many of your "Wow!" moments) were employed to build a certain White House in Washington D.C….

  13. Ahh my beautiful home town 🥰 really recommend you all watch the old Disney movie Greyfriars Bobby (1961) it’s the tail of Edinburgh’s famous little dog Bobby. Your little one will love it 🥰

Greyfriars Kirk dates back to 1602

  14. It was great to hear you pronounce Edinburgh properly Steve. I'm from Glasgow, my grandparents took me to Edinburgh when I was 5, we went round Holyrood House and the guide asked me to demonstrate a curtsey in the throne room but I was too shy!
And Greyfriars Bobby actually sat by the grave of his owner, and never left there, people fed him and helped him keep warm, but he never moved. I loved Hatchi, cried my eyes out! The loyalty of animals is just amazing and, at times, heartbreaking!

  15. A sense of travel with Michael Matheny , his us a well put together blog worth your watch if you want a better version of the city ❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

  16. Great video as ever guys! So glad to hear you pronounce Edinburgh correctly!!
Ideas of what to watch next:
    1) Burke and Hare
    2) Trainspotting (a 90s film starring Ewan McGregor, Kelly MacDonald and Robert Carlyle – not suitable for your wee one!)

  17. 19:14 Technically, the 'birthplace' of Harry Potter was in England, on a train between Manchester and London, where she came up with the idea and started to scribble down the basic elements of the story. FWIW, although many people outside of the UK think that JK Rowling is Scottish, she's actually English; she moved to Scotland and wrote most of the books there, but she had the idea on that train journey.

  18. I am lucky to live and have been in Edinburgh since 1980.
But Steve u don't want to go to greyfriers grave yard at night. Its very haunted , rumours are witches which where killed.

  19. Edinburgh as been a city of just a little over 900years with many of the old boundary walls still standing(been rebuilt over the years using mostly the original stone) but what this video doesn’t speak about is the city under the city, which some parts are open to tours…there’s loads of videos on them
Scottish History Tours is a good channel for loads of Scotlands history filmed on location
