Picked this up off the verge the other day (Western Australia). steel wheels, Cotter pin cranks, 3sp Shimano hub, 16kg (35lbs), “Made in Japan!” seatpost.. guessing 70s?. Appears to have sat in a greasy shed for a while, so most of it should clean up ok for some fun and tyres (22×1.75) are supple. Sadly someone brush painted (albeit somewhat neatly) over the original burnt orange duco in a dull pink, so undecided what to do there as yet. Suspect it’s the original seat. Light is a modern LED.
Wondering if anyone knows the background to the brand. I had read somewhere that in Australia Malvern Star released a “Family Star”. Is this one of them or a more mass produced clunker? note seat stay details, downtube gussets. Head and downtube decals only show “family” as best as I can decipher. No serial number or place of manufacture sticker. Thanks.
