What a massive day for the Chesterfield Canal Trust at Staveley Canal basin and the Staveley Town Deal. Where we see the completion of years of hard work as the Trans Pennine Trail bridge gets craned in so the cycle paths are now connected.

See the work going on at the basin to construct new Cafes, Workshops etc where we will hopefully see boats moored soon. Then onto the bridge and the works followed by a walk to Bellhouse Basin to see the works going on for the archaeological dig to discover the sunken boats, old wharf walls and any treasures that may be found!

  1. I have listened ti the excellent commentary twice but still miss any reference to the capacity of the bridge although 20 ton loads of clay were mentioned as were horses. Lovely old colourwash Victorian engineers' plans as usual. I assume that they are kept safe in the County Record office.

  2. Great video…thank you…..it’s a pity the artists impression included platforms for the boats in the basin….which looked fantastic…..Unfortunately they were all just a false impression….not going to be built now 😢😢
