If you’re new to my channel and videos, hi! I’m Evan Edinger, and I make weekly “comedy” videos every Sunday evening. As an American living in London I love noticing the funny differences between the cultures and one of my most popular video series is my British VS American one. I’m also known for making terrible puns so sorry in advance. Hope to see you around, and I’ll see you next Sunday! 🙂

If you want to know HOW I make my videos including gear, lighting, all the tiddly bits that connect it all together, (with cheaper alternatives and kit I used to use), I’ve listed each item, what it’s great at, and why I use it on the gear section of my website here:

  1. For everyone seeing thi, i'm sorry but renting situation is not like this! if you want to live in the ring you'll be lucky to find a decent flat(with kitchen) for 1300E. The prices are rising to this number outside of the ring as well. The Berlin rent situation is similar to London.

  2. Pension is also included in the German insurances. In the UK i heard you have to get that separately. So if you do, take home is pretty much the same for both places actually.

  3. In Berlin's fashion scene, it appears as if everyone is in the midst of a 72-hour revel, exuding an air of indifference toward their appearance. Yet, beneath this facade, there lies an intense dedication to crafting an edgy aesthetic. The paradox of their effort to look effortlessly disheveled reveals a poignant irony—a meticulous pursuit of a style that is, in its essence, artfully contrived.

  4. Obviously you havent seen too many parts of Berlin yet, all you said IS correct, but you can also find the complete opposite: you want a completely dead Residential area, go to Britz or Rahnsdorf, you want a cleaned up shopping street, go to Schlossstraße or around Savignyplatz, you want bland modern buildings, go to any new quarter, such as anywhere between Ostkreuz and sissiphos club… It has everything good and bad or really depends where you live.

  5. Welcome to Berlin!!! If you’re missing the Americans, the dems abroad are having a 4th of July party at 5 pm on July 4th at the Vagabund Brauerei Kesselhaus
    Oudenarderstr. 16.

  6. People from abroad saying Berlin is super affordable is always funny to me, because Germans consider Berlin like the most expensive place in the universe.

Though knowing how ridiculously expensive places like London, New York or Paris are, I see where it's coming from.

  7. Really, Berlin isn't cheap. Try asking people from non-white community, we have to take houses only which are costly. Other shops where we aren't welcome. Its very racist city.

  8. Is smoking really that big of an issue in Berlin? I'm planning to study there and don't really wanna inhale smoke all the time( If everuthing's that bad, then it makes sense to take a look at Potsadam, I guess…

  9. Love your video… I have lived in Berlin for almost 7 years .. As an expat from USA…
The only disagreement I have is that there are more outrageously dressed people here than anywhere else in the world 🌎… You can ware anything you want, and its completely acceptable here… There are those that are well dressed too, but its rare… The norm is the odd characters, insanely dressed.

  10. The summers are so much better in Berlin than upstate Ny or Nj….less humid and less hot..
The summers are basically perfect here… minus the few really hot days.

  11. All sounds very fair. Although, some points really depend on where you live. I live in Moabit and feel overdressed almost everytime. Probably would feel differently in Prenzlauerberg or Mitte.

  12. "Oh my God, it's just so cheap" & "Berlin is very affordable" but not realizing he is the embodiment of gentrification that pushes away Berliners…

  13. The housing market in Berlin has virtually collapsed. It's not about the price anymore. You may have to spend months (or up to a year) to find a long-term place.

  14. i thought a ton of muslims now populate berlin and london. Smoking is a German thing, Germans should be able to smoke where ever they want its their country. British people and Americans are disgusting in their marketing culture going around acting like we own everything. Americans and British people should work on their own stuff like civil engineering and stuff pure british american health culture that isn't borrowing stuff from asians

  15. Sorry but this is so much bullshit. Berlin born and raised here (34): The city is everything, but not affordable to live anymore! The screenshots of the flats you gave were outside of the ring or really shitty neighborhoods, where nobody wants to live. For us, the people having a serious and stable life here, it's hard to find a place in general, but even harder finding a place with affordable rents not made for rich expats. Those statements are so annoying

  16. I know berlin is affordable but it is too boring, it is not a big city. the transportation is a total mess. not organised, very dirty. the food is so bad. i really don't like this city

  17. As an disabled person who needs to use elevators when using public transportation I sooo agree about their cleanliness (they smell like urinals) here in Berlin. That was the only time I absolutely loved having a mask covering my nose during corona times. 😂

  18. The cigarettes being offered at checkout in supermarkets is more a solution to crime, stuff like that moved over time from aisles to the front where employees can have a constant eye on them.

  19. Swede here. Wow, thanks for letting me know all this that I didn't know. I've been to Germany twice and I loved it. First in 2011 Triberg in Schwarzwald, than Berlin in 2013. I've would visit it again. I'm proud to be self-thought in german, not fluent but very well. Watched many german channels (like Anime@RTI II) in the 90s and learned some german enough to keep a basic conversation.

  20. you have to be the first person in youtube, claiming that berlin is cheap. if you are looking fo an apartment over 70sqm inside the rinbahn, good luck finding it under 1800e (with the exception of some very shitty neighborhoods).

  21. I am sorry, but Berlin is not cheap anymore… All the flats you showed… it is really hard to get them even if you have a normal job. There is an insane competition. I can say that living here for the last 5 years and having lived in Munich, Mainz and other cities. Since everybody is coming here, it is just simply not enough of flats. Please dont advertise it even more hahahaha.

  22. Can we talk about how using cash is actually great? There are literally like 10 different apps to send money to your friends and it gets very difficult when you have friends from all over. And then you have to worry about currency translation and its annoying. When things only accept cash people actually carry cash and life is great. It also makes things that haven't transitioned to card payment like meters or bathrooms easier.

  23. I'm afraid I have to disagree with the part about being "cheap." Of course, it's cheaper, but finding places like yours for €600 is almost impossible. Any 1/2-zimmer 45-60sqm are basically starting €900+ Kaltmiete (basic rent), plus €150/250 for Nebenkosten (additional/maintenance costs), so at least around €1150, which is very rare already.
