Hi

I’m considering my first aluminum road bike, and I’m wondering if it would be better for my needs to directly buy the Emonda ALR 5, the Domane AL 5, or customize it with just the frame. I have no knowledge of bike mechanics, but I’m open to learning.

My needs:
– Endurance and comfort for up to 200km of road riding 90%
– Versatile for light bikepacking 10%
– Somewhat aerodynamic for beginner-level competitions
– Light enough for climbing hills and portable for travel
– Upgradable as I plan to keep it for a while

My budget is €2500-€3000.

Thanks for your help

  1. Newnarratives on

The Domane is a much more versatile bike. The Emonda is a flat out race bike, it’s pretty aggressive and not super comfortable on longer distances. The Domane can fit much larger tires. (I own the Emonda and love it but I have a gravel/cross bike, so the Emonda is only for short and quick road rides)

  2. Was in the same boat. Went Domane al5 a few months ago. Been an awesome summer ride!!
