🔴 Check out this story of another adventurer who paddled the Amazon River SOLO 🔴 https://youtu.be/iIHt4bz5x1Q?si=slZmQ_6oE_ZWoP-v
This story follows the 2018 cycling adventures of Jay Austin, Lauren Geoghegan, Marie-Claire Diemand, Markus Hummel, Kim Postma and Rene Wokke.
They traveled across the world and all converged in Central Asia. After months, even years of cycling for some of them, 4 cyclists would not make it home.

I remember hearing about this story and I couldn't stop thinking about it for a few days. It bothered me that a group of people, seemingly all well intentioned and so positive, were taken out by a chance meeting with the wrong group of people. While I'm not a biker, I have traveled to a few countries, including some of the ones along the silk road and neighboring it. My experiences have been like those of these 6 adventurers, right up until they crossed paths with those men with awful intentions.
I always hope hearing about travel tragedies, whether heinously intentional like this one, or accidents along the way don't deter people from traveling. It is a very fulfilling experience.
Lastly, I'm late to this episode because I only recently found your channel and have been binge watching it since. You covered this tragedy so, so well. I'm glad you kept the focus on the 6 of them, because that's what should be highlighted. I knew of this incident, but I learned so many new details through you about the lives of the people k*lled. I appreciate your channel's tone, both the straightforward delivery, and the levity you add to it to when appropriate.
So random 😔 I wonder what that attack was about
simply dont do that, problem solved
if you think you can just go on a vacation, showing of every bit of "western privilage" in some of the poorest and corupt countrys without protection, its not realy a suprise if not everyone is gonna be nice and happy about you showing up. poverty tourism sounds fun but is actually pretty rude.
Biking is safe because nobody expects bikers. Attackers had all the info they needed double. Never spread info on where you will be. Never say you are from The USA. Sure you can share info, but only when it will not spread. Norwegians should not admit this in Libya or Syria, we can say Finnish instead.
This could sadly happen anywhere in the world. People say these people were inexperienced… No. Most had years (Rene had over 30+) years of experience. Sadly, a terrorist attack can happen anywhere.
It is deeply sad that they ended up with the least likely outcome… Crimes of opportunity committed by strangers are the rarest type of crimes. Im glad there was some justice, but i think its a shame so many think this could have been "prevented". Its really easy to backseat quarterback but there is no way to predict people who are committed to violence at any cost. It was simply wrong place wrong time and while it is tempting to hope for a way to avoid risk, that in and of itself is deeply naive.
Thank you for focusing on their journey and the both the challenges and joys of their trip
There were certain countries I avoided when I did my long tours. The middle east is and will never will be safe. China, in the late seventys, wanted me to ride with a red guard. I declined the ride.
"So, all the 'stans…"
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Some people see happy couples being happy and it’s triggering their own emotions and leading to their own problems that they manifest onto others.
I don’t like beer 🍺 it makes me gag and vomit. The smell alone makes me gag.
The Males danger sense was right.
Loved the narration. Rip to the 4 brave souls. ❤
So they got confronted by reality.
When she listed all the countries, I was like nope. Riding through all the communism and terrorism on one route? Not for this guy, nuh uh.
One thing I see maybe the problem is that the Western citizens think that the rest of the world is something like Stockholm or Berlin although Berlin looks more like Lahore Pakistan now.
When you get on a bicycle you travel these places at the minimum their cars are very aged and not trustworthy poor breaks and maintenance.
You can be robbed you can get hit if you want to be on a bicycle try to do it in Europe or Australia or similar places you taking a lot of chances I would not even get on a bicycle in these places I'm from Iran and I tell you people drive like hell over there.
During one visit I spoke to this guy and asked him why don't you turn your lights on.
The answer really astonished me he said he's preserving his light bulbs and you want to drive a bicycle and these roads.
I just don't know what the motive was for this injury.
You certainly are doing fabulous service exposing these things so others may not get injured.
Wildlife is not much of an issue at least in Iran whatever was there they either shot it and consumed it or is basically not dangerous
Such a happy and sad story,,, humans getting the chance to explore the world then cut short by time. Thanks for sharing. Don from Western Canada
Not everyone wants to sing Kumbaya and hold hands . The world is a big place
It's best to ride in your own country instead of these highly dangerous countries, RIP poor people.
Unfortunate Bikers but they inspired others. Rest in peace.
Isn’t she the “cabin chick” from Canada?? YouTube keep unsubscribe me from her channel…
From Australia gov.
Note: "Terrorists may attack with little or no warning". Lala's figured not if they smiled.
Latest update:We've reviewed our advice for Tajikistan and continue to advise exercise a high degree of caution in Tajikistan overall due to the threat of terrorist attack and potential for civil unrest. Higher levels apply in some areas. Terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting tourist locations and other public areas. Take official warnings seriously and follow the advice of local authorities.

yeah such a friendly world ….
If you ask global motovloger and Dutch YouTube star "Itchy Boots" what her favorite area of the world to traverse it's this area. Anyway it's all documented.
This is why you should never tell people your are American when travelling abroad…always Canadian.
After traveling 3 years around the world i swear never go to Muslim countries
I’ve traveled on y bike all over the world. Wisdom learned-do not say where you are from.
