For most of history, men ruled the world. But for 3 decades in the late 1500s two powerful women dominated Europe. Catherine de Medici was Queen of France and Elizabeth I was Queen of England. Neither one was expected to be Queen. But both bid their time until they could seize power. They were brilliant, dynamic, determined, and sometimes ruthless leaders. But even with all they had in common, their differences made them fierce opponents. Catherine was a catholic, a wife and a mother, while Elizabeth was protestant and single by choice. Dozens of books and dramas have focused on the epic rivalry between Elizabeth and her northern neighbor, Mary Queen of Scots. And while she is an important part of the story, Elizabeth’s relationship with her greater nemesis, Catherine has long been forgotten. However, season 2 of the Starz series Serpent Queen, and the recent book Blood, Fire & Gold by Estelle Paranque have resurrected the historic frienemies. So let’s examine the parallel lives and epic rivalry between Elizabeth I and Catherine de Medici.

*queen regent. Ree-jint ❤
Love that even when women were in charge the France v England rivalry continued.
Medici hands down! She has way more against her than Elizabeth who had a team propping her up. catherine Medici was the ultimate underdog
I have to wonder if Elizabeth’s refusal to produce an heir was a snub to her father and his destructive obsession with securing the Tudor dynasty. The line died with her, maybe she had the last laugh and it was revenge for her mother.
I knew it…
Samantha Morton also played Queen Mary of Scots in a Queen Elizabeth movie….I think the Golden Age
13:00 if you want to skip the common history
Catherine was able to toss her problem (Queen Mary of Scots) to Elizabeth. Aahahah one point to the serpent queen.
Religion Religion causes more problems than anything else🤬🤬
19:03 Not very demure 😂
I was never too interested in the Royals’ lines but your videos are very captivating. 🤔👍
Can you tell me the name of the lovely music on the background please
Now I'm more interested in a video about every French monarch like you did with the British monarch😊
I would say that Madam the Portier groomed the prince. She probably wanted the power and took advantage of a child/teenager. It's gross.
Fun fact. Elizabeth I was known as 'The Cat' at court. Katarina d'Medici is 'The Serpent.'
Cat vs Viper = boss fight
Re the ad for women’s health pills – there is no such thing as “post-menopause,” the proper term is menopause, which is what a woman remains in until the day she dies. Therefore, the only thing post-menopause is being deceased and one wouldn’t need pills to help with that! Sorry, but if you’re trying to sell me pills to take after I’m gone, you have totally lost my respect.
This is a word for word remake of your Medici video from 4 years ago, spliced with Elizabeth content. Not complaining, but since I just watched the other one last week, i was having MAJOR deja vu 😂
Marie Antoinette and Queen Charlotte next???🙏🙏😫😫💕💕💐
Why must you insert “both were notorious womanizers”? What relevance is that to the story that you are telling. Elizabeth didn’t care and neither did Catherine. This did not affect them in any way whatsoever!
I didn't realize how much the actresses (young and older) look so much like Catherine. Wow.
"Some people say we're alike, some people day we've got the same(? Uh… Heirs?)
LETS WORK IT OUT IN THE REMIX 💚 🟩 "
Watch the Stars show.
Of course Mary I executed less people than her father. Henry VIII reigned for 38 years. Mary reigned for 5 years….its an annoying non point.
Seems to Ann didn’t have the reproductive problem, it was Henry that did
This voice is more than horrible.
