Moving to a new city is a huge life change. If you’re an average person wanting to move to New York City in 2024, this video is full of things you should know about the city before you arrive… from the current state of the city to my advice on what it’s really like. I am a transplant who has lived in NYC for the last 7 years and have had a ton of experiences here both with roommates and living alone so hopefully you can trust me 😉 I’m hoping me sharing these tips can help just one other person in their journey.

  1. Hey friends! Hopefully this video can help someone. If you're a new yorker or an experienced transplant like me, please feel free to share any constructive advice you may have for others looking to move to the city 💘 Good luck everyone!

  2. Why call out black owned businesses specifically? Why not Asian, Indian, white, etc. owned businesses? Why not just leave it as small independent businesses?

  3. It will all come crashing down! I looked at street easy last night and the cost for a 1 bedroom is insane. The apartments are not even worth the price. They’re tiny, old, and poorly designed. Unless you have $4K+ to pay you will likely get a crappy price for the price.

  4. It's so odd how different people have different reactions to the city, and they're often extreme. Personally, I love New York City so much. The first time I saw NYC was in a movie when I was 6 YEARS OLD! I still remember knowing I wanted to move there. It was like a calling.

I've been there so many times and once moved there, although I had to return to where I was born after not even a month. I love that place, and I can't wait to move back. I cry sometimes when I think about NYC I want to be there so bad. Although I lived there briefly, I still consider myself a New Yorker, perhaps a stranded New Yorker trying to get back home. Ugh.

  5. My husband and I are moving to NYC this winter. Many New Yorkers have said they’ve moved a lot throughout their time living in the city. Is it uncommon/impossible to stay in one apartment for a while? I hate moving but I’m trying to be realistic if moving a lot is inevitable when living in NYC.

  6. As a born and raised New Yorker – get ready to hustle and save as much as you can. It is insanely expensive and sadly going in this economy's direction, It's getting even more expensive. Expect to live with roommates unless you are reeling in 200k+ a year.

  7. You mentioned in your video about the shootings on the subway. I just so happened to be on that train where the shooting took place. I was on the C train leaving Broadway/Junction and when the train stopped at the Rockaway station a few black guys got on the cary next to the one I was on but when they walked through the end and spotted their gang enemy and they spotted him the Spanish guy flipped up a newspaper he had tucked on his belt and underneath he pulled out a gun and started shooting. Two people were shot but none of the gang members were hit. Go figure!

  8. As a former New Yorker, in this place almost 16 years, I suggest is having more savings for back up. NYC is a great place to find great jobs. Try find someone live with u, plus try not argue with roommates. NYC is more stuff do and less boring. I was from NYC 2021, and move to South Carolina, I feel boring, cuz no stuff do around. Plus I don’t know how to drive, as a city girl, 33 years, I still miss NYC.

  9. you are a new yorker, don't let people bully you into thinking you're not, my mom's from Mexico and if anyone told her after being in US for 7 years "you're not a real American" the same people who bully the transplants here would throw a fit.

  10. UMMM KNITTING CLASS AT THE LIBRARY HECK YES! I so appreciate you saying about the housing lottery, I've heard of it but never gone on the website until I saw you actually share it! Thank you for speaking about supporting small businesses and family owned etc, because I always wonder how to support the community when I arrive. Also the volunteer opps, VERY cool! I arrive next month so I REALLY appreciate this video, thank YOU!!! P.s. a good ole house party in Brooklyn sounds INCREDIBLE

  11. Finding a place and moving in NYC sucks. NYC is not safe if you don't know what you are doing. If you take the subway and go out after 10pm, then you are in trouble. Walking down the street in Manhattan is not really fun, you have to be on high alert at all times because weirdos everywhere specifically looking to be nasty. If you live in a non-doorman rental, you are at risk and must be on alert all the time.

  12. im plaining to move in new York as soon my taxes hit! I'm still young only 23 years old and ive been working like everyday this year so I know my tax would sorta be good around 8k . I work at wendys actually anyways what do y'all rec me doing on my decision I want to look for a roommate at the area in manhattan's or Brooklyn any help or tips I would very thank you so much.

  13. I grew up in a different time in nyc,it makes me weep as to the homelessness I see ,this is greed of man sticking it to other men to keep them poor with there families and children!! To not prosper in life !!! DONT YOU SEE IT?!!! and how I ask you who will run any blue collar jobs in nyc when ppl are either moving away or becoming homeless ,why does it have to be this way the greed and its vicious ,does anyone know how many ppl are living in there cars ,vans ,in there storage units with there families in a uhaul ???? Who's getting g that money ? Yeah we are all paying for there car notes, there propertys, there rich living off the sweat ,blood and tears of families ,jeep it up !!!😢

  14. I don’t plan to move to New York, but still this video is so wholesome and interesting! I just love to get a sneak peek into New York life!
