Sometimes we should remember that civilization started from the East, not from the West to the East, but the other way around. Germany has made record profits due to no competition as i remember legacy brands CEO claiming China is our forever money making machine as china failed miserably in ICE vehicles then China changed policy to green tech solar, wind, nuclear fision, nuclear fusion and EVs meanwhile among western countries only Elon Musk had foresight to see importance of green tech. Being champion for too long has made western countries think being at the top is a natural rule of this world underestimating rivals and competitions. Tbh, E.U is functioning as U.S puppet rather than European interest otherwise why would Germany and France instigate regime change on democratically elected Ukrainian president in 2014 with U.S help then civil war on ethnic Russians in Ukraine which forced Russia to intervene, to protect millions of ethnic Russians in Ukraine that were being killed with U.S help since 2014 until feb2022. Only U.S would want E.U in conflict with Russia and China otherwise Russia, China and E.U can work on mutual benefits on everything considering each have everything what other needs

Business sectors are in favor of trade that makes both sides prosper. Politicians are interested in protecting weak sector to get their votes. Each country has its weak industry. Japan wants to export cars but protect farmers. Same with most of the countries world over. "America first" kind of slogans are copied world over, and that means less trade, making everybody poor. In 1953, US sent war ships to Japan and demanded to open up for trade. Situation changed dramatically.

The best move for Europe is only allowing importing only hybrid Cars to EU . Reason : sustainable electric infrastructure for fully electric cars. Hybrids are the only reasonable cars because of cost.
