so my DIY ebike was stolen today at work. mf walked right inside our shop thru the bay door and took it. it was a Spot Honey Badger in XL and I'm looking to replace it as closely as possible, mostly meaning a steel hardtail 29er with adjustable rear qr dropouts, disc brake mounts, and room enough to fit 2.5" tires (maxxis hookworms).
problem is I'm not a "bike guy" other than my one labor of love/daily commuter which was just taken, so I don't really know what's out there, brand wise. I'd pay $600 right now to replace just that frame to give an idea of my budget. I see the Honey Badger on ebay, but I can't pull the trigger for $1100-$1600 when a lot of that is tied up in the belt drive that I'd just strip out. Still tempted regardless… That's part of the reason I haven't decided yet between a whole bike or just a frame, I have not yet ruled out building up from scratch and I'm definitely open to second-hand either way. And frame-only helps with shipping costs and availability.
Just from browsing ebay I think the closest fit is a Surly Ogre and not much else has caught my eye, really that's about all I have to say at this point. Just looking for a nudge in the right direction.
RIP Sweetie. Best 17,000 miles I've ever driven. https://i.imgur.com/gl5Ugyq.jpeg
