Days 222-223. 19km (82145kms 7yrs)
Electric vehicles sneak up on me, while I nearly crash with a high speed rollerblader in a busy bike lane. With hidden earbuds, nicely dressed people have animated chats with themselves as if theyโre experiencing a psychotic episode. Itโs weird to be back in mainland Europe.
And Iโd forgotten how much I love Marseille; all grandeur and graffiti it is cool, friendly, and beautiful. With some particularly welcoming Warm Showers hosts I enjoyed two days of exploring the cityโs sights. Churches both modern and ancient with subterranean crypts, several *free* museums and galleries, grungy bohemian suburbs, palaces with ostentatious fountains, and everywhere bike lanes connecting it all.
The Marseillais are very friendly too; several people saw the bike and came over for a chat, and even without the bike I was invited to lunch by a Protestant church I poked my nosey nose into! So after a shaky start in Corsica to my France journey, Iโm overjoyed to be back traversing the country beginning with Marseille ๐๐คโค๏ธ
