A while back I posted a thread asking for suggestions on starting a bike route in Europe from our home in Scotland. Thank you so much for all your help. I thought I’d update you and see if there are any more suggestions. (previous thread: [https://www.reddit.com/r/bicycletouring/comments/13tjto8/route\_ideas\_for\_europe\_in\_september\_starting\_from/](https://www.reddit.com/r/bicycletouring/comments/13tjto8/route_ideas_for_europe_in_september_starting_from/))

Currently booked is to get the overnight ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam and then the Nightjet sleeper from Amsterdam to Zurich. We then have four weeks to get back to Amsterdam for the ferry home.

From Zurich we are going to do a quick circuit in the Alps, pop into Lichtenstein and then pick up the Danube. Then we’ll follow that for several hundred kilometers before veering north to Bamberg (one of my favourite places in the entire world). The first section through Switzerland – we are planning on mostly pinching this route: [https://www.freedomtreks.co.uk/germany/4-countries-3-lakes](https://www.freedomtreks.co.uk/germany/4-countries-3-lakes)

Then for the danube section we are using this as a guide: [https://www.freedomtreks.co.uk/germany/danube-donaueschingen-to-passau](https://www.freedomtreks.co.uk/germany/danube-donaueschingen-to-passau)

Although we’ll likely be making 60km-100km a day.

That should take us two weeks or so and is routed here: [https://ridewithgps.com/routes/43910441](https://ridewithgps.com/routes/43910441) \- the rather big spike in elevation in Switzerland is served by a tourist train to the summit which we will likely take…

We then have two weeks or so to get to Amsterdam. Probably going to hop a direct regional train (and therefore bike friendly) from Bamberg to Frankfurt to kill some miles and pick up the Rhine route. And then we’ll see where we get too from there but we’d like to explore some of Flanders if we can.

Does anyone have any last minute tips or trips for exploring these areas? We’ll be staying at commercial campsites mostly as there seem to be plenty on the route. Warmshowers covers all the areas where camp sites are limited.
