  1. I find it something different entirely to make "big swings" about something in your sport, like winning olympics and Kona, or maybe winning all 4 Tennis Grand Slams, to saying to win the greatest achievement at a completely different sport like the Tour de France. Maybe it was a PR gag, but then it was a bad one, because it was disrespectful to the cyclists. I'll give Kristian credit for his new announcement, because winning gold in the olympics is much harder than winning Kona, yet alone because the chance only presents only once every 4 years. And he has shown that he can train short distance and win long distance races at the same time. But all together, concerning long distance he has a long way to go to be among the best (if he wants to). There are several athletes, who won a handful long distances in 2-3 years, but there are very few, who won 10 races in 10 years. Yes, you can't compare those two things qualitative, each achivement is valid and valuable of its own, but the GOATs are people like Phelps, Bolt, Frodeno, Isinbayeva and Duplantis. If Blummenfelt wins another gold in LA he will be added to this list. But the hype around him in the tri scene is greater than his achievements, that's for sure.

  2. Good podcast. Yep, hard to believe that the supertri guys coming after Yee and Wilde could be possibly faster. However, when you think that Wilde is a 13.23 5k track and Yee similar, are the next generation really coming through, lower or breaking 13? They’d be in their national track team for the Olympics. So I think we are on the cusp now with these guys.

  3. Re race time starting – good discussion . Love a late start to a race. My favourite and best Half Ironman was the Challenge Half Ironman at Forster NSW 2013. The race started at 12:30pm. Very civilised.
