Yesterday on my way to work my wheel fell off halfway there (5 km). Kind of.

Short story long: I bike to work and go through the city. All pavement right. Then there’s this small patch of grass when a sand path I sometimes bike on as a shortcut (I save about 5-10 seconds lol). Just as I bike on the sand – my bike completely stops! Turns out the front wheel is stuck and cannot spin whatsoever. I turned my bike around to inspect it and my front wheel just completely fell off. Turn out the quick-release skewer (I think this is the word – Chat GPT told me so) had fallen off! Fallen off!!

My questions is: can this happen by accident? Or did someone tamper with my bike last night?

Sometimes my bike chain releases by itself. It can do so while just standing still, and while parked. I know this cause it happens sometimes. Once it happened while I rested on a bench during a bike ride with the bike leaning against the bench, so I 100% know it wasn’t tampered with.

Thanks you guys so much for your help! I really want to try and understand what happened.

If someone tampered with it – maybe to steal my wheel – why didn’t they steal it!??? I spoke about this with my partner who also bikes and know more about parts and stuff than I do, and he said that you don’t need to completely take off the quick-release skewer in order to take off the wheel. Which creates even more questions marks in my head!? What the hell happened??
