Iron Age history of Lindfield, West Sussex – iron smelting furnace

We love a

bit of history

here in

Lindfield,

and I’m here

on Gatesmead,

which is a road

just off

Portsmouth Lane.

And it’s known

that in this

area there was

particularly settlement

from

the Iron Ages.

So, all we

really need to

know is that

there was an

iron smelting

furnace

here during the

Iron Age.

It’s been

discovered

on the

land that is

now Gatesmead.
